I need something to block the sun (bought the car with only a glass top). I don't have the $$ right now for a second painted roof so that's out of the question for now...
I've seen the fabric panelled inserts sold from midamerica and eckler's, anyone have them and like them? I've heard a few bad comments about them, do they not fit well?
I made my own shade but it took some doing. Not hard but it just takes time. Trace opening, transfer to hard material, cut, wrap with cloth, drill holes for suction cups and install. You can get fancy and line it with reflective material on one side and black cloth on the other. Use spray adhesive and do one side at a time. If you make it smaller than the opening, you can put door edge molding all around. Mine came out great but by the time you are done you have spent close to what it would cost to buy an off-the shelf. Check out the link at Ecklers for $59.99. See link.
Check with any of the Corvette parts houses. Previous owner of my car included a neat plastic static cling type with a matrix of black dots - looks like it should work perfect. I've never even tried it as I don't mind the sun shining on me, and I haven't left the car parked in the sun for any length of time.

I have the black mesh screen from Eckler's. It fits good and so far has stayed on pretty well. It's made quite a difference driving in the sun. I like it!

I have one of those static cling screens for my glass top. It does block a lot of the sun and keeps the car a little cooler when sitting in the sun during the day. It is easy to put on but a pain to smooth all the air bubbles for a smooth look, no matter what you do, you'll still get air bubbles in it. I usually smooth the air bubbles out sitting in traffic or at a stop light.
I had the insert piece from mid-america. It was a pain to install, never fit quite right, and the gaps around the edges still let in light. It did do the job of keeping the interior cooler and darker, but if you're vaguely **** about your car, you'll hate it. I ended up buying a solid top, and I love it.
