Default Newbie question

I've got a stock '03 Z06 that I bought about 3 weeks ago. My car has a plastic line that runs from the door vent under the 405hp badge horizontally across the door on both the driver and passenger side. Today I was at the dealer and noticed that none of the C5's left on the lot had this. I then was looking through pictures on various sites at C5's and C5 Z06's. Some had the same thing and others didn't. Was this an optional appearance thing, or did most guys just remove them for a cleaner look. I know my car is a Z06 because of the VIN #, original build manifest, and original window sticker. I'm just kind of confused as to why I have this and most other '03 Z don't. If it was something that was removed for appearance, how do you do it. Thanks.

Sounds like you are referring to the Body Side Moldings (BSM) which are one of the few optional options available on the Z's. Some cars were not ordered/built with them and others have removed them. Generally they can removed with a heat source (like a heat gun or hair dryer if careful not to burn the paint) and some fishing line to pry it away from the paint carefully. Any residual glue could then be removed with 3M Adhesive remover. I have this option on mine, and have no plans to remove them. They do add a bit of an eyesore, but for a daily driver like mine, I prefer to have the extra possible protection from insensitive drivers/passengers that might open their doors into the car.

BTW - Here is a source for Z06 production numbers:
http://www.c5frc.com/Z06_Production_...sults_page.asp

Out of 8635 03 Z's produced, 5408 came with factory BSM's

Congrats on your new ride and welcome

Thanks Andy. I wasn't quite sure what to call them. I figured it may have been optional, but I noticed that some C5's and C5 Z's had the BSM's and others didn't. I couldn't figure out why or if there was a particular body package that had them. My buddy removed some from his 30th anniversary Trans Am and it looked really good. I like them on my black Z, but they look sharp without them too. I appreciate you taking time to answer my question.

I'm glad to help where I can as is the case with most folks who frequent the forum. This is a great source of Info for your ride (as it was for me when I was a newbee back in 04). If you havent already seen them, there are a slew of FAQ's in a sticky located at the top of the forum listing which can answer most of the general questions you might have. There are also lots of good stuff in the C5 Tech Tips section in the "Other" menu (https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...php?TopicID=1).

Yeah man, this site is great. I am learning a lot about my new Z. Thanks for that cool build number breakdown list too. I checked out that sticky first time on the site a few weeks ago. I searched to answer my own question about the BSM's but couldn't find the answer, so then I posted and got a quick answer. I'm really diggin' my new Z. It's completely stock, and I'm just having a great time getting used to the car. Today I played alot in "competition" mode on a local empty two lane highway out in the sticks.....that was a rush! These cars can haul some tail. The application of power is so smooth and quick. I love barking the tires repeatedly @ WOT. I drive an '01 Hyundai Accent M-F, so when the weekend comes I take the Z out and drive it. Most times cruising, but I've got to do several WOT runs come Sat and Sun.

Keep the BSM or else it looks like a melted jelly bean; and Welcome!
