I found a 99 cpe, only 4000mi, one owner,6spd, mag red with lt oak int, sport seats. They are asking $29995. I think I'm going to go look at the car this week. I look on KBB, edmunds, and nada guides they were all around $26000. If the car is in perfect shape what do you think is a fair price. I will be paying cash. I really like the color with the lt oak int. Thanks for the help!
a 99 for $30k is too high. there's a reason that multiple benchmark sites (kbb, edmunds, & nada) peg it @ $4k less than they are asking. don't be smitten by any one car; there are many out there. good luck. bub

Sounds like a nice car and the color combination is one of my favorites, but $30K is too high, even with only 4K miles on the clock. If they won't come down to a price more in line with what the guides say, keep on looking.
I agree that 30K is high, but pay what you feel is right. Don't let your perfect car get away if you can afford it. I would make a low offer and tell them about the book value. Only you can decide what is too high for this car. Good luck!

Someone posted this car buying suggestion: Look at the car, compliment the owner on it, ask him the lowest price he is willing to take, if it's more then you're willing to pay tell him to give you a call if he can give you a better price, then leave. That routine may work better for an individual sale than a dealer, however. FWIW
Low mile, Mint C5s are going to bring top dollar however, I would NEVER pay more then book value on the car. When you go look at the car take print outs of the NADA, KBB, and MSN car pricing with you as a tool to show what the car price is showing as mint. This may help you bring the car down to a far market price. If this doesn't help and he is still to high... Keep looking it may take a while but you will find one. Price is out of line

Just for reference, I bought my FLAWLESS 97 a4 coupe with 11K on the odometer for $13,500.That's what the dealer had offered trade in on a new C6 and the owner wanted to make sure her "baby" went to a good home. Deals are out there.Keep looking, you will find what you are looking for, at your price. Chuck.

I agree with all of these guys here. $4K above what the "experts" say is too much money. Here's something for you to think about....the car is 7 years old, meaning that the rubber is 7 years old. You might need new tires even though they only have 4K miles on them. Also belts and hoses might very well be dried out.
I would use John's/Pewter/Oak/01's suggestion - compliment the owner on the beautiful car. I would look VERY CLOSELY at the rubber, including the door seals, etc. I would make him an offer - the most you are willing to pay. Chances are he'll say no, thank him very politely, leave him a contact phone number in case he changes his mind. Call him in a day or so and ask if he's had a chance to think over your offer. See where it goes..... good luck!
A dealer has the car. All they sell are vetts and some other highend cars, so I'm sure they know what it's worth. I thought about the belts, hoses ect that might need to be replaced. Thanks for all the help.

They may not know actual market value, though. I bought my 02 vert last August in the low 30's. It had been priced $8k higher, and they sat on it for a few months. It doesn't hurt to make the offer.
