I have AAA and no surcharge. One thing I always do each year is shop around to see if I can find a better price on car insurance. The past 8 years AAA has been the best in price and service. Good luck shopping.

USAA is good to me, $500 per year. What gets me is the state of VA and the county hitting me with a property tax (or Corvette tax) on 99' vert higher then my 05' Solara vert. The C5 is around $450 and the Solara is around $400 per year. On an up side my 89' Dodge Ram is only $20 per year.

Don't do it. Stay with a preferred carrier - locate a reputable independent agency in your town and have them market your account.

As for a surcharge, most companies use an ISO based symbol to rate a car - each car falls into a numerical category. A C5 may be a symbol 24 and a cavalier may be a symbol 12. These consider everything from likelihood of theft, cost of replacement parts, etc. Then each company prices a little differently based on their experience insurance cars in a given symbol. That may over simplify, but it's the general idea. I have not heard of a high-end vehicle surcharge on top of the symbol rate.

I have Allstate. No surcharge, and the '03 'vette is cheaper to insure than my '06 MX-5, even though the 'vette cost more than the newer vehicle.

Been with Liberty Mutual for 46 years. My vette is only 654 for the year. That is full coverage, everything!! We have 4 cars on the policy and our house, so we get multi-car discount, and homeowner discount, and retired educator discount. My vette new in 03 was less than my 97 Z-28 by one hundred dollars a year. We only pay by the year and that gets another discount.

Fantastic on services and paying out, yes, but not on premiums. They are hassle free to deal with as we learned on the Impala, but they wanted over double what Geico offered for about the same coverage. Perhaps its better for a different location or age bracket, but I was paying quite a premium unknowingly for years until I started shopping around. I now reshop for insurance every 6 months (and call Gecio to ask to have my rate lowered heh), and I still haven't been able to get close to my Geico rate. Its $920 a year, but that probably doesn't help much because your zip code, age, record, etc will all be different and have a big impact on your rate.

Never had to use Geico though to actually pay out, so who knows how they actually are to deal with. *shrugs*

PS: [offtopic]Even the USAA credit card and savings accounts aren't all that hot after looking around. Emmigrant Direct offers better, I'd recommend checking em' out. [/offtopic]

Since you are in California, check into Wawanesa insurance. They only insure drivers with clean records and as a result they have incredibly low rates, and NO surcharge because it's a Corvette. Give them a call and have them send you a quote. You'll be very impressed. They are also very good in customer service. I've had them for about 10 years. Got rear-ended in my Camaro and they were all over it for me!

interesting.... we just received our Allstate 6 month renewal ($38.30 per month) Here's a scan for the 2002:

we have it fully covered... but as a "pleasure" vehicle (which limits mileage to 7500 per year).
