Use a pointer puller. HUH? It is nothing more than a flat bladed screwdriver with a V ground into the flat then bent to 90 degrees to form an L shape. Any piece of sturdy metal will work. I still have mine from my tech school days many moons ago.

Get a very small flat blade screwdriver, and gently pry the back of the base of the needle outwards - it will "pop" out.
Glue the new EL faces flat - do NOT use double sided tape, as it interferes with the sweep of the needles. I used contact cement, very thinly brushed on.
A word of caution; I discovered by experience that in order for the needles to read correctly after removal, they must be reinstalled with the cluster connected to the car - it must be receiving power. Otherwise you reading are going to be far off. My tach was at 2000rpm with the engine off - no matter what I did.
Other than that, it's a straightforward install - and no, the wires do not show at all.
