Default Lug Nuts

Fairly new owner here and have not done so much as an oil change yet. Just noticed that one of the chrome caps is missing off of one of my lug nuts and just a plain bare nut is showing. Two questions. Where is a good place to get a replacement? When removing the lug nuts do you remove the chrome caps before hitting the lug nuts with a wrench?

Also, yesterday was the first day with the vette at work where I could see it thru the window. It is rather cool to look out and see a vette and know its mine. Cancelled my viagra prescription since I have been driving it. Oh yeah. 2000 Pewter Coupe MN6.

Thanks

Congrats on the Vette!

You ALWAYS remove the covers before using a lug wrench. I use a deep well socket to remove mine. I also put the covers on by hand and hand tighten them with the socket.

You can get replacement chrome covers from Mid America and Ecklers.

Check with any of the forum vendors that sells wheels - they should have a lug nut cap like you are looking for.

Default Lug nut covers

House of Wheels sells chrome lug nuts with or without locks for about $25 shipped. They look nicer that the plastic caps, and cover the ends of the studs.

Hi wisvette,
Just one word of caution if you're just going to replace the missing cap. This is an aftermarket product (no chrome from the factory) and I've seen different styles of these caps - I suspect that a mismatch would stick out like a sore thumb.
