$700 for diagnosis. This is not right. Any compentent transmission shop that understands the T56 knows the problems with the symptoms you have described. Shift forks bend, sync wear out, etc. I have never had the opportunity, but RPM would diagnois for free on this forum.
I don't want to comment on the pricing but I will give a few pointers. Tell them to use a compressed carbon blocking ring (from 5-6 F-body unit) in place of the brass oem piece. I have been doing this for years and GM started doing this in the 06 Z06's. We do have bronze fork pads avaliable (we make them in house). Another thing they can do if it hasn't previously been done is just clean up the reverse slider and flip it over the back side is not used.
I agree with all the above posts. Some of those charges are quite absurd. Especially the $260 shifter diagnosis.
The other thing to consider is that now you have it all torn apart; shoudl you also replace the clutch and PP now since it's already all apart?
well here's the latest news I went to the shop today and had them give me a printout of the charges and also show me the parts that need replacing.
parts that need replacing are: reverse gear, reverse gear fork, reverse gear fork pads, reverse synchro , and copper synchro ring.
actual charges after I got printout are:$720 for removal and reinstall of tranny
$260 for shifter diagnosis
$440 for tranny rebuild
$640 for parts
and the rest are taxes, fluids, and overnight delivery charges.
So what do you guys think???
looks like this guy has a labor rate @ $120 a hour.
6 hours to pull the unit
2.3 hours diagnosis time[if it took more than a half hour,this guy is a idiot]
3.6 to rebuild the unit

the diag time is bogus and the labor rate is higher than a dealership.go get yourself a labor time guide or go to a dealer and get the labor times.sounds like you've been bent over to grab your ankles so go look up the labor times before you squeal too
