I initially thought one had to be going slow or be stopped to engage Comp Mode.
Not the case. You can be cruising at 60, and punch in and engage Comp.
On a highly modified vette ... its the only way to travel. Otherwise, you will frequently feel the computer pulling timing ... and you will be losing alot of the extra HP/TQ potential.
For the highway, I always leave it fully on. However, in autocross or roadcourse events, one is better off with it completely off. The only exception would be in rain. I saw a 2 second better time at my last autocross event in my last two runs with it off as compared to the other 8 or 10 previous runs with it in competition mode on a good dry course. I also believe some track configurations are more friendly to the AH than others. A friend at Rockingham roadcourse did better with the competition mode. I have personally done better at the Nashville speedway with it off. In competition, I always run with it off, unless, as stated above, the track is wet.
AH has a hard time figuring out why one is turning down an embankment at 137 MPH and slamming on the brakes while setting up a hard left turn through the carousel. It reminds me of a cat trying to shake something sticky off of its paws...... the car just just sort of throws a little braking sequentially into each wheel while trying to grasp the situation. I find it upsetting to the car in this scenario so I just leave it completely off......

I think it depends on what year vette you have. I have an '02 and don't have to be stopped to engage "comp mode". James
