[Z06] Time for a new Battery????????

Default Time for a new Battery????????

I had my LG Street Series headers installed a month and a half ago.

Since then I have had the Charge System Fault come on twice, once being today.

The alternator is fine and goes to 13.8-14.1 volts at start up and maintains 13.1 all day long.

Then later today the Check Engine light came on.

These are the codes I pulled:

PO420
PO430

I know what these are from and not worried about them.


These have me concerned:

1248 < this one I can't find on the DIC list.
1291
1292

I also had 1 radio code U 1064


The car runs like an animal, so I'm guessing the battery is on the way out. The battery is a yellow Duralst that was in the car when I bought it.

Default Red Top for me

Just two weeks ago I replaced the oem battery with a new Red Top. Ask me in a few years if it is ok.

my engine check light came on last week. tried to check the codes but before I did everything went totally dead...Battery!..changed to red top. it better last $130:00

A fully charged battery in good condition should settle in at 13.6.

At idle the voltage across the battery should be around 14.

Mine acted up a month ago. Got out of work and dead car. So we boost it and I head for home. On the way I'm getting misfires and all kinds of SES warnings. Get home and go to pull the battery. Went to loosen the + terminal. The cable fell off with the whole post in it! Little bugger had leaked fluid down the compartment too!

Spent more time cleaning the compartment than I did replacing the battery. The battery was the original Delco from 02. So it lasted roughly 4 years. No problems now. Random codes all over the place seem to point to the battery first in these cars.

My car is an 02 and the car has been sitting 3-4 at weeks at a time in the winter.
and driven about 1-2 times a week average in the summer.
The Original battery is going good after 5 years, since the
car was delivered in 9-01. It is a glass mat, no leak battery
and made me for the car
$104.00 from my dealer.Part Number #2277
To stop the damage people suffered, when the battery leaked and killed their car.
Why not go with that the "red top" track by reading posts here
for years,has a questionable quaility.
Then I like the stock look. Mounting is no comparsion either.
I have no doubt which Is lighter also
no brainer here.
Get the stock one and enjoy.

sounds some what like mine Delco 02-23 months old...dead and loose shorted out pos. battery post....G
