Default GM recall

Bloomberg just reported that "GM recalls 2005, 2006 Corvettea After Roofs Fly Off While Driving".

Were the latching instuctions given to C6 buyers just too complicated for them?

No, the issue is that the "glass "top is attached to the frame with double sided tape. The tape has been failing and the top has been sailing away while the frame remained latched in place !

Tape? Good to see that GM is still number one in quality.

I think the tape was an effort to reduce heat soak

Search it over on C6 Gen and there are a buncha threads about it. It seems that it's not an isolated problem. Whoops!

Actually it's a good reason to NEVER buy the 1st or 2nd model year of ANY Vette. It's always taken a year or 2 to get the bugs out.

Hope GM's fix for this is better than the one for the column lock in the C5.

Give GM a chance to fix the problems. I'm sure they will have it all figured out by the time the C-7s hit the streets.

how did GM secure the C5's roof differently from the C6? we don't have this problem...

why the change? cost cutting?

$50,000 plus for a GM top-of-line vehicle and the damn roof panel is held in place w/ tape that allows the panels to release once the car is driven at a higher speed.

Maybe there should be a caution decal on the dash stating: Caution--Your roof panel is held on with tape----DO NOT exceed 30 mph or your roof may blow off....

Unbelieveable, simply unbelieveable-----the General does it again...
