...at a local shopping center I frequent, someone got the bright idea to put in some HUGE speed bumps. They are HUGE, I would estimate at least 3.5 to 4" high. Not only that, you can't even drive around it, the first one is totally unavoidable. They are left totally black with no yellow paint so when I first got there I almost ran over them going 15 MPH. I tried to crawl over one of them in my C5 at a sharp angle and after the second wheel touched over the car bottomed out hardcore!
So, just a day later my check engine light is on, and it says that my left rear O2 sensor is dead. Figures. I haven't checked under the car yet, but I think its quite a coincidence I bottomed out and then my O2 sensor died. I think the wire or the sensor itself got destroyed.
So now, for me to go into that shopping center I have to make a U turn and come in another way because my car will not physically fit. I have my car lowered on OEM suspension without cutting bushings. I've NEVER hit a speed bump that large!
I did some research to find the management company who runs the joint, but there is no phone number, just POBOX somewhere in the city. Although it'll probaly fall on deaf ears I'm highly inclined to write a letter saying I CANT GET INTO YOUR DAMN SHOPPING CENTER. Either that or rent a steam roller or bulldozer and pancake those things... ugh!
They do suck. I had the same problem with a Costco here. They put in HUGE speed bumps. But they left about a 2 foot gap in between the 2 driving lanes so I can put the one side of the car between the humps and then I dont have any problems. The speed bumps do serve a purpose though. There's always some ricer driving through the parking lot thinking he's in a Nascar race revving the crap out of his engine. I'd love to see one of those guys hit that speed bump and come down and slam that big Bazzoka muffler right off the car...LOL
They are there because of @$$ holes and unfortunately we have to live with them. Not knowing the shopping center, most have an anchor store. Maybe they can put you in touch with management or tell you who did the work. No reason for 4" bumps Good luck
This is why I can't understand people lowering their cars. Your GUARANTEED to bottom out on something and for what? I can see on the track, lowering the car but not on the street.

If your car is at stock height, the shopping center may in fact, be held liable for damages that you incur. If you've lowered it, you'll have little recourse.
Shopping centers ... is never a good place to bring your vette,,, between those speed bumps, and those run away carts that lazy butthead people leave any where they please it's a wonder how a car comes out of there in one peice. Try contacting city hall, then slap them with your repair bill. Maybe that will wake them up. Good luck.....

not sure about your areas but more often than not it's @sshole kids who are either coked up, drunk, or high on whatever that drive at incredibly dangerous speeds in parking lots. shame we all have to pay dues for such jerks. bub
My C5 is not lowered, but I have crawled over a few speed bumps waiting to hear the scrape / crunch of fiberglass... so far so good ( on wood).
Unfortunately, that is the price ya pay with a C5. On the otherhand, my less cool ZR2 Blazer actually goes over speed bumps smoother the faster I go .
Maybe a set of rocker rails will help prevent further damage, and make sure the O2 sensor wires are drooping as little as possible (and when you figure out how to do that, let me know ).
