I don't know either but I had my keys in my pocket the other day and bent down while I was in the garage and the SOB went off!! Scared the living **** out of me! One of the keys must have pushed it in far enough to set it off.
All you have to do is open the FOB and put a little piece of tape over the contact for the panic button.
exactly what i did. i almost cracked open my skull when i hit it when the car was in the garage and i was looking for a socket i dropped under my workbench
not sure if this will curse my luck, but i have never accidentally hit the panic button on our c5. did it quite a few times on our honda but never the c5. bub
looks like a lot of us have done this and it does scare the heck outta you, i wonder if there is a option on the DIC that would allow you to turn it off like the sentinal lights?
Im going to check it and see.

Haven't done this yet with the C5, but it's only a matter of time, since I've done it with pretty much every other car I've had with a fob!
It really isn't that hard to do, I promise, and you can easily reverse it later if you want to.
Yes i carefully opened up the fob and saw the little area where the panic button makes contact to circuit board and put a tiny piece of scotch tape, waited till this morning to try it(didn't want to wake up the whole neighborhood ) in case i didn't get it covered completly and it's now disabled

The mental image of this just made me laugh. Thanks Bob, up until now it's been a crappy morning.

I should have mentioned to use electrical tape, scotch tape will dry up and get brittle over time.

I never set it off by accident, but really- with all of the false alarms we ignore today in parking lots and such, if there was really trouble would blinking lights and horns really scare anyone away?
