Front tags are becoming more important as more jurisdictions go to red light cameras or photo radar. Don't look to have front plates done away with anytime soon. There's too much money in it.
Front tags aren't required for cameras. NC has cameras and no front plate requirement. Front plates is a BS requirement IMHO
If you run without a front plate, you just set yourself up to be stopped by LEO and get targeted for other Bull $hit….not worth the hassle……get yourself a nice vanity plate and live with it.
Just hope the cop doesn't see you reaching for something under the seat and think a) you're going for a gun or b) hiding something. Either way, you're going to put the LEO in a defensive mood and probably actually INCREASE your chances of getting a ticket for whatever got you pulled over. Angry, nervous cops are more likely to give tickets than warnings.
When I was in LE that kind of move would get you a gun in your ear and then handcuffed in the backseat while I searched your vehicle for what you were hiding. Not a smart move to reach any where in the vehicle when stopped. Keep your hands in plain sight preferably on the wheel or the dash.
Somebody has to come up with a "pop-up" front license plate to match our pop-up headlights. That way you could run without the plate showing, then if a cop stops you, you could hit a button and rotate the cover around 180 degrees to reveal a plate on the opposite side. You could have the cop think he is losing it, ha, ha.
There seems to be plenty of room at the front of the C5 for this.....how about a rotating center piece in the front bumper...one side good looking and the other with the plate on it.....could even motorize the darn thing and flip it over form the driver's seat......too James Bond, I know...............but think of the traffic stop where you flip the switch as soon as the lights come on behind you
If you are going to try the "I forgot because of the show routine", which I would hope would work most of the time, the way to do it is to attach the plate permanently and velcro the cover on over the plate.
That's what I did. But I still have my doubts it'll work if I get pulled over.
I need to do this. Do you have any pics? I have never had a front plate on the car, 6 years. I'm living on borrowed time.
Thanks, Mark
Sorry, no pics, but this is a real easy mod to accomplish. Normally, the top of the cover is held in place by two tabs and the bottom is held in by two screws. Just mount your plate like normal and line the bottom inside of the cover with velcro. Get the industrial strength velcro from Lowes or Home Depot. Mount the other half of the velcro on the car to match up with the bottom of the cover. Slip the top of the cover in and pres the velcro together. The cover will not come off unless you want it to.
Long Island Nassau & Suffolk PD are tight but for some reason whenever I go through a checkpoint I dont have problems ... if anything I get two PD's that look at the car smile and check the registration and move me on. I always believed it was image ... if you look like a wise-guy youre gonna getit . Just smile wave and move on through. They are looking for bigger fish to fry
Connecticut has the silly law of two plates. SO far so good! I was unfortunate when I lived in Maryland. THey too have the two plate rule and I was caught not having on front. SO I too got a ticket!
