Default Trunk lid not flush

My trunk lid is not flush when shut on the driver side. Is there any quick fixes or is this a symptom of a larger problem?

i have the same problem, it was even, but I kept opening the trunk from the driver side and it got progressively higher on that side, so now i'm opening it from passenger side to even it out hopefully....lol

I'm assuming you guys have FRCs or Z06s (or Verts)?? I never in my wildest dreams would have thought about this becoming an issue (trunk lid uneven)

To open my trunk, I press the trunk lid release button on my dash (trunk lid pops up about an inch or so), then I simply insert my hand under the trunk lid in the middle (right under the C5 flag emblem) and lift straight up.

When I close the trunk lid, I gently push the lid all the way down until the latch on the trunk lid mates against the locking mechanism on the trunk itself (but doesn't quite engage the locking mechanism); then I press down firmly on the C5 flag emblem with the palm of my hand to close the lid. I do this mainly to minimize fingerprints on the paint :o

This doesn't address your issue of the trunk lid being uneven but have you tried opening/closing the trunk lid this way (instead of grabbing from either side)?

On each rear corner of the trunk lid, there is a rubber bumper that screws in or out for adjustment. Hopefully, this will solve your problem.

i have to adjust mine as well. It sits higher in the rear toward the glass. I hate it and im going to tackle that today before i wash her. To close the trunk lid, i just put my index finger in the trunk loop latch and pull down and just pull my finger out halfway once i get it going. Closes just fine and by the time it reaches the bottom, its slowed down enough to not be a slam and jsut enough force to close it every time. And no i havent caught a finger, yet

You can also use this to get it to come out more too when you release it. Great post

There's also two adjustment bolts on each side. One will sort of raise/lower it so it will sit flush but then to far back which is where the other bolt comes into play. I had to adjust mine as well. Weird how many people have this problem. Just play with those two bolts and you should be good to go.

how about trunk lids that doesnt pop high enough when you try to open it? whats the solution for that?
I usually have to open and shut on off the doors so the inside pressure pops the trunk up, but that gets old

Have you checked the hinges and stuff? Make sure there's no gunk. I'm not sure bout that one. I'd like to know as well so when I have that issue it will save me some troubleshooting time.

the hinges are fine, its not stuck. just dont pop high enough to get your finger under to lift it. I'll put some silicone spray on there and see how it goes

My trunk lid doesn't pop up very much either. I generally have to pull it up with my fingers.

I wonder if GM designed it that way so if you pop the lid on an extremely windy day, that it does not catch the lid and damage it.

Lightweight fiberglass lid + major wind gust= bad

Sounds exactly like what I do!!!

I also have the non-pop-up problem. I'm going to adjust on the rubber stoppers to see if I can't get it to pop open a little bit more when I pop the trunk! There is actually a GM TSB on this which recommends spraying the hydraulic (whatever they are called) and hinges with silicone. My problem is aggravated by the partiton not allowing air to pass through to the flapper as well.

Well the bumper stop did help, but it just made my trunk stick up like LUCKY7's. I sprayed the silicone and it seemed to help with the trunk pop. The only thing left would be to install or stretch the spring.

Add me to the list. My trunk is a nightmare. Should be able to sort it out with all these pointers. Timely thread. Thanks guys!

For starters it came from the factory with only the driver side piston. Have a new one ordered but no idea how to install when it arrives. I've examined the one that is there but it's puzzling. Hope there are instructions.

The bumpers must be high on mine because I have to press down hard to latch. Sits so low when popped I can barely get a finger in to lift it on the side with a piston. Can hardly tell it's popped.

I thought I latched it at the store the other day by slamming it but it didn't latch since I didn't slam real hard and my vent doesn't work at all (no partition yet either). Discovered the lid ajar the next morning when I went out to wash it. Want to talk about a big surprise? Try lifting that lid with the car doors locked. Freaking alarm. Well, at least I know that works now.

This is sort of off topic a bit as I thankfully do not have a trunk alignment problem or story other than the standard hard to open deal, but I have come out to find my trunk poped open a few mornings when in fact it had been closed the night before. Pretty sure its because the trunk button was accidentally pressed on the remote (key fob) while in my house and close enough to the car. I'm now extra careful while handling or placing down the key fob

There is a TSB on '03 FRC's (Z06) trunk lids. The dealer replaced some hardware. Wish I could say it fixed the problem. I will look for the number.

Later...

I bought two new replacement gas struts from Fred Beans for less than $40 including shipping. Now my trunk pops up high enough to get my fingers under it without having to close the door...

Had the same non-popup issue, the dealer fixed it under warranty. It worked great for a week or so, and now it's a dice roll as to whether or not it's gonna pop up. I'm going to try silicone spray, but beyond that, I'm thinking it'll go into the "live with it" box.
