anyone have pictures or heard of this noise that comes from the axle nut? found a post sayin you need to unscrew it then lube it.....anyone have a pic of such a thing???? this poping banging noise is gonna put me in the nut house
A loose axle nut is one of the reasons you can get popping in the rear. If that's the problem you can remove the wheel and retorque it.
Another reason popping occurs is due to a dry axle spline. You can pop off the half shaft out of the gear box and grease it. Could be the outer spline but more often it's the inner.

I was getting a loud clicking when shifting my A4 from D to R and vice versa. The driveshaft spline needed greasing. Fixed it right up.

also, what do you mean by pop off? im sure its a lot more in length than that. and what type of grease should i get?
