What type of paint are those of you who have painted their rotors using? High temp engine paint? A brake caliper painting kit? Any recommendations? Also...what type of prep is needed? Just some brake cleaner and a wire brush?
I used Duplicolor's caliper painting kit, about $15 at PepBoys or WallMart. It includes paint (400 or 500 degree with ceramic to aid heat transfer), brush, tape, and caliper cleaner. They say to use a brush to clean and a cloth. Worked great, needed 4 coats.
For calipers you only need 400 or 500 degree paint. Now for rotors, you need VHT or 1200 degree paint.
^^Wow, both of your calipers look great. But more specifically, I'm looking for those who have painted their ROTORS or ROTOR HATS to cover the part that normally rusts on OEM or non-zinc coated aftermarket replacement rotors (i.e. the famous $25 NAPA rotors). Any suggestions?
I use a manifold dressing called Calyx to clean the rust on my rotors.
Apply with a toothbrush and wipe off with paper towels. A little goes a long way.
Did these about 6 months ago (only the part that shows), and they still look good.
call me crazy, but I just use normal Krylon spary paint. It melts away when I go to the track, but by the time it starts to look bad, the rotors need to be replaced. For street driving it's fine.

I used Folia Tec caliper paint on mine (epoxy based). Been on there for almost five years and still looks great. Was rather expensive though. Duplicolor or Rustoleum will do a good job for less money.
