I own 64 & 72 Convertables...on which the tops only are up when parked in the garage (sometimes that is)..

I also own 76 & 79 Coupes with glass tops which never come off Period !

When I traded in my 95 Coupe for a C5 I knew I did
NOT want a coupe... (hated the large rear glass).. So
it was either the Fixed Roof (Z06 or FRC) or a Convertible...

Ended up with a third Convertible... just more flexable and I figured I would not use the Z's extra HP all that much in real life..(lol) Police not as big a problem as my wife...saying slow down slow down.. But then again she does not like to mess up her hair..and likes the top up and the A/C on...

Maybe I should trade in my wife... ???

With me part of the requirement of any sportscar is at least part of the top must come off!

How did you know what body style was right for you?
It was easy for me. I am allergic to bug bites. I don't mind living dangerous but I'm totally against living stupid. That Z06 hardtop suits me fine.

My 1st vette was a 72 vert I bought in 2001. I though I wanted a vert, but after having it, i wanted a Hard Top. There were just too many rattles, squeaks, leaks, etc. Also I wanted a track car and you have to have a cage in verts to track them most places. Also, If i ever rode w/ another guy friend I felt ghey!

the FRC is very ridgid, and private. I dont feel like I can be seen inside as well (think limo). At the track, it is the ulimate sleeper. I was faster that verts and coupes at the track and they all came to see what mods I had. Much to their suprise, all I had was catback. I would like to think FRC's got the "wenesday" motors as mine dynoed at 306RWHP bone stock! I am stretching here though!

The FRC looks more exotic to me. I have had many people tell me that mine is the best looking C5 they have seen. I ask them what is different and they can't tell me. But when I point out the trunk, then it hits them!

Not to mention FRC's are rare (approx 4000 in 99 and 2000 in 00) and will likely begin to hold their value better than the more common coupes and verts.

As you can see I'm a little biased! Good luck as any vette is a sweet ride IMO!

If your climate warrants it - there is nothing like a Vette convertible. If you need to be able to carry stuff, the coupe can't be beat, and if you're wanting the stiffest, highest performance version, go with a Z06.

I went for the coupe and I love it!

The FRC was the only model on my mind for a track car. They did not have a Z06 yet in the 2000 model year. (Ordered car July 1999). A light car, with a stiff body, and 6-speed manual standard.

I wouldn't want the top off mine. I don't even like the windows rolled down. AC on most of the year and I'm fine. FRC for me. I almost bought a coupe though, probably would have never taken the top off. I bought my first vette that was an 85 and the top was missing when I bought it, cheap, 3K for the car. Anyways, I drove it with the top off for about 3 months before I could afford a top and even though the top was glass and it made it hotter than a **** inside the car with it on, I still preferred to have a top on the car. Hell, I don't even like the moon roof open on my wife's suburban.

I bought the first one available that I could afford! It happened to be a Black/Black 2001 Coupe. I love the open/closed top option, hate the rattles. Nothing a little 'tightening up' won't fix, though!

Nothing better than a topless cruise with a clear sky while the sun's setting!

I can't seem to find any photos of verts with roll bars in them, besides the one photo on Wolfe Racing's website. Maybe you all can help out?
