Fairly common problem. He might give the following a try:

Otherwise, he'll most likely need to replace the window motor and actuator assembly.

If it has to be replaced (only a matter of time), order it from Fred Beans for about $230. I replaced my passenger window motor a month ago. It took about 3 hours including a half hour test drive. Not very difficult to do yourself.
