Default gearing change c5

I have a 2004 C5 with SC and forged engine. I am thinking of changing the gearing to 3.42 or 3.7+. Good idea? What should I expect to spend($ parts and install)?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

3.42's and a 2800 or 3000 stall and that car will be an animal!

parts, it depends on if you get a hardned half shaft or any other heavy duty parts. a good converter will set you back 700-900 bucks. the install, i would expect a good 600 or more because they have to take the rear, trans and tq tub out as well as the h-pipe or x-pipe off.

Thanks for advice. Assume everybody thinks 3.42 is better than going up to 3.7+ correct on that?

I'm running 3.90s, SC, 3600 stall and big cam.

The "safe" road is 3.42 - it all depends on your driving style, engine mods and what you want from your car. Traction will be a problem, no matter what you get, unless you go to 2.73

I just went through this. I paid $1060.00 for a brand new Z06 3.42 rear, $67 for GM synthetic Lube, $300.00 for the installation, and $75 to have a tuner reflash the PCM to recognize the 3.42 gear change. I went with a new carrier, because I previously had a bad experience with a used one that ended up costing me $300.00 to install and $300.00 have taken back out because it was making noise. What a PITA that was.
