Default Hoodliner question

This hoodliner was brand new last year. When i took my 98 out of storage this Spring, there was this white discoloration on it. My guess is water, but i never had this happen before, and I do have the High Performance Hood Seal installed, the Deluxe 12.5 HP model even.

Any ideas on how to make it look "new" again?

Any sign of this before you put it away? I'd be concerned about a coolant issue somewhere? Good luck.

One would think engine coolent has sprayed on hoodliner. I would apply light detergent with a brush to try to clean Good Luck

You may be able to steam clean it. It would be much easier off of the car, however.

Just a suggestion. But proceed at your own risk... If the stain is water based, before throwing in the towel, I would try a solution of CLR followed by a rinse with distilled water.

Your hood liner is repairable. As mentioned above the best method is to remove the clips that hold it on to the car. Lay the hoodliner flat on the ground and use some simple green or other cleaner and then rinse thoroughly. I used a leaf blower to dry mine after rinsing and then let it sit in the sun to dry it out the rest of the way. Worked for me.

You need to be careful with the liner however, maybe use a soft rag on the hood liner to work the cleaner in a little before rinsing, but do not use a brush as the black liner will rip pretty easily.

Mine has that around the edges....I've heard some guys spray paint theirs black. Wonder if you could paint it, then put some kind of sealant on it to keep it from doing that again.

Good Luck cleaning the hood liner. I agree with the other post not to use a brush! Be Careful!

Default I have to jump right in on this one!!!

I have to jump right into the middle on this one.....

As much as I would love to paint you a new liner AFTER you use a brush and water on this...

DO NOT use a brush, rag or water or any other solution on your liner! There is a sponge between the layers, and it will FUZZ up, real pretty like! These puppies are very fragile....

Take the liner off the car.. Cover up your logo with masking tape and newspaper.. Be VERY CAREFUL taking off the masking tape...

Get a can of black Bar-B-Que Grill high temp paint.. Stand the liner up. Move back about 14" and lightly MIST the liner back and forth in light sprays... Do not concentrate on a particular spot..just evenly mist your liner..

This should work.....

Check out your coolent cover. It has a pin hole on the lid. I have heard some put a thin sponge in the lid..

Good luck and let us know the outcome...

Thanks for the tip, Paula. I found something called Krylon Ultra Black at Home Depot. It sure did the trick, and the liner looks like new. I'll have to check out that pin hole in the coolant cover.
