Key fob question

Someone was telling me the other day that they only have to come close to their car and it will unlock and walk away from car and it locks. I have a 2002 coupe. does my key fob have this ability to program it?

Yes its true. Your FOB has a little toggle at the bottom. Slide it to the right and it will do this. Slide to the left and it operates like any other remote.

Only the early key fobs had this. I know it stopped by 2000.

only 97-99 model years have this feature. his 2002 does not. from what i have read, many owners with this feature do not like it.

I have a 2000 model and my fobs do not have this functionality.

Mainly because every time you went to the garage or near you car, it was always locking and/or unlocking. Most people just keep the "Passive" mode switch turned off.

That mode is called "PKE", Passive Keyless Entry.

My 96 C4 had it and it sometimes spooked me!

My 97 has this "feature" but I keep it turned off. I don't like the car locking and unlocking all the time when I pass by it. If I want the car unlocked I'll push the unlock button thank you.
