Default Newb question about C5 verts

Was looking at a convertable today a 99 with 4500 miles on it. 6spd. Car looks killer. Guy is retired and his wife says its gotta go so SHE can retire.

Anyway its a vert like I said but when he rolled the top back he had to do it manually. I asked if it was a power roof and he said 'no'. Are all c5 verts like this? I never really thought about it, just assumed that a car like this would have a power roof.

Also the guy is asking $29,000, anyone think thats a good deal? or not?

Has hud, powerseats, twilight sentinel, selective ride, bose stereo, but no memory options. Black with tan interior and top. 4516 on the odometer.

I was looking for a 2000+, probably a coupe or FRC.... but the vert looks damn sweet with the top down.

All vert tops are manual. 29K is steep.

29K is on the hi side, but not totally out of line. There should be room to deal down another 1 to 2K. Check Edmond's and see what they say a 99 Vert will sell for - private party sale...

All C5 vert tops are manual. The first corvette power top was just offered recently on the C6 models.

But don't worry about it.... Taking the top down takes about 5 seconds.

You will love the Vert. Mine is a 2000, but not for sale. Manual top is no big deal. 4,500 miles, garage queen for sure.

29K is a bit high, but 4500 miles is barely broken in. Make him a offer, when the wife says she wants it gone, then it will be gone! Good luck, Mark

You won't mind...you'll be able to drop the top in less time than the power version

The manual top realistically takes about 30 ( or less) seconds to get down. That includes the time to get out and back into the car

If you want an old new car. Then the '99 seems a good car. But you should be able to get an 01-02 with say 25-40,000 miles for that price.

For a '99 with that mileage and if it's pristine condition, I wouldn't pay more than $26-27K.

The mileage is obviously fantastic. The non power top is no big deal. The price is high.

I paid a lot more than that (almost 10K) for an 02 vert with similar miles. Don't get hung up on the top: with a Window Valet, it's a piece of cake. I understand that the C6 power top option had problems. With the C5, there's nothing to break.

The top takes all of about 25 seconds. The price does seem hight. I have an 01 vert 28,000 w/all options except body moldings and a built in laser defuser and I paid 30k. LOVE THE CAR!!!

I paid almost that much for a 98 Ragtop in February with 21,000 miles on her clock...

Needless to say I think the price is pretty close to what I would think of as fair...

less then 5,000 miles in 7 years... I honestly do not think the seller got much enjoyment out of driving the car...

ROFL, how is $29k going to make or break a retirement?!

Sounds like a real nice car - as far as the price, according to Kelly Blue Book.....

Private party sale excellent condition = $26,005
Trade In value excellent condition = $22,525
Retail Value excellent condition = $29,640

Average of the three above = $26,056

A buddy of mine just bought a loaded 3x black '04 convertible (Mag Ride, MN6, 12 disk changer) with 5400 miles for $38K. I would try to negotiate a little more with the seller - seems if you could get it for around $26K you'd have a great car at a great price. Owner installed mods don't add the retail value of the mods to the price of the car.

Good luck!

You can't go by the Kelly Blue Book prices. I would look at Edmonds and you have to consider that this car doesn have very few miles too.
