Default Change Master at same time as Clutch?

First how many of you have had your master go out and what year car and miles?
Isn't the master seperate from everything required to change the clutch?

I mean even if it goes out right after it's not like I was just in the area and I have to repeat any of the same work right? I also heard that it has a quick disconnect that wont let it lose any of the fluid either if it needs to be changed out.

Thanks!

At the time of a clutch swap it is pretty important to install a speed bleeder. With a speed bleeder installed, you shouldn't have any problems bleeding the clutch if you do have to change the master out later.

Yeah. I'd recommend changing it if you have the cash. Especially if you're paying labor to have the clutch done.

Would really suck to have the $120 part fail later and you'd have to pay the full labor again... ugh.

Don't forget the pilot bearing too!

I believe you're thinking of the Slave. The master is not inside the drivetrain, and can be changed separately. However like i said, it may need to be bled.

Now of course there may be some less work involved doing it all at once. But if the cash isn't there, it's possible to do it later.

I believe there is a better z06 part. However i haven't purchased hydrolics in almost 3 years. I know at that time i put in both z06 master and slave.

I just had my clutch changed out about a month ago. At the suggestion of Xtreme (who did the work), I had them install a new Z06 Clutch Master Cylinder, as well as a new slave cylinder. Since I am only pushing stock HP with no plans to change that, I had them install a stock LS1 clutch with a new flywheel.

I will read to you exactly what was installed according to my invoice:

GM Pilot Bearing for LS1/LS6
GM C5/Z06 Clutch Master Cylinder
GM 12562766 Z06 Slave Cylinder
Kool Sox for LS1/LS6 (set of 8) Heat Wrap Master /Slave cylinder

If you are curious - Xtreme is a Forum vendor, and I'm sure Chad would be happy to explain what he did and why.

You can either send him an email at xmsengineering.com or give him a call at (480)517-4969. He's a nice guy and he'll answer your questions.
