Windshield wipers last week wouldnt stop when i tried to turn them off

Things I have done:

pulled the 25 (#10) fuse.. left it out for a few days - that did NOTHING

Cleared the rubber things in the engine bay the 3 or 4 of them.. that did NOTHING

ANY last suggestions before I take it in to get looked at??

Sounds like the wiper motor shorted out. I had this happen on my '98 and it was due to the little rubber things getting clogged with trash and not allowing the water to drain as quickly as it should, therefore allowing water to rise up over the wiper motor during hard downpours. This will cause premature damage to the wiper motor if if sits in water.

Maybe a short in the wiper stalk? My truck also does this on occasion (but only for a few seconds). Electrical problems can be tough to find.

If our Vettes have a Pulse Control Module for the wipers I bet that is it. Late 90's and on GM products were notorious for this gremlin.

I have the same problem on my 97 Chevy pickup. A friend who was a GM Tech tells me it was a common problem (in pickups at least) - a broken solder connection in the park circuit of the circuit board in the wiper motor.

Solution: Find & resolder the bad connection or replace the circuit board. Cost of circuit board for the pickup is about $50. He's going to resolder mine "when he gets time".

I'm not sure if this is the same issue for C5's, but it certainly seems possible - unless C5's have a unique wiper system?? Would be a good place to start at least......

Good Luck & let us know what you find out.

I had this happen in my '98 Envoy, was told it was a bad wiper board... don't know if that helps at all, good luck with the fix!

Gotti, i just hacked your Myspace account; i explained to you the clogged udders were the 'cause' of the spent motor

I'll take 'smoked wiper motors for $500' Alex

when is the next CFNE event? i'll swap the motor out

Just my .02, but if the wipers didn't work at all I'd say the motor got wet. Not stopping (parking) - I'd go for a true "daily double" Alex:
What is a bad circuit board? see posts #7 & 8

I wrote the book on this.

See my thread

Its probably the stalk, and that's harder to change than the motor in my opinion.

Why not do the obvious? Only drive in the rain.
