Default Z-06 Calipers

I was curious if any forum members have installed the Z-06 calipers on thier coupe to replace the standard calipers. Will these fit with the standard thin spokes? Are there any clearance problems? do you need to replace the booster or Brake reservior or anything like this?

If you are referring to the C5 ZO-6 calipers, they are exactly the same as all other C5 calipers with the exception of the red paint. There are no clearance issues.

If you are asking about C6 ZO-6 calipers, that is a different matter and there are some clearance issues I believe. There are a number of members that have switched to the C6 ZO-6 caliper and if you do a search, you should find a lot of information on what might be involved with switching them.

Good luck... GUSTO

If you are just wanting red calipers then you should contact "corvettepilot" the forum vendor. Mike will powder coat them way cheaper than getting a new set. I believe he can also do custom colors.

Default powdercoat VS paint

Yes, I have a C5 and I want to paint them. I was wondering if the
"do it yourself" caliper paint wears off quickly. I was thinking of painting with duplicolor caliper paint but would use powdercoat if there is marked improvement.

Thanks for your tips.

Shameless plug,

There is a huge difference between my powdercoated calipers and painted ones. Many of the exchange sets I get back are painted, and they don't compare at all.

If you've got Millenium Yellow, I would go with matching calipers, like these:

I painted mine a year ago - don't waste your time. do the powdercoating. . . . . you'll be much happier.

Are the calipers aluminum? Do you use some sort of phosphate dip, how do you get it to stick to Alum?
What kind of backlog do you have for the powdercoat?
I would prefer powdercoat but hate to wait too long.

Powder is electrostatically applied. the part is grounded and the application gun is positively charged, the powder is attracted to the part and then cured at 400 degrees.

The wait for exchange is about 3 months, if you send yours in, I can usually turn them around in 2 days, maximum.

The price is $200 for calipers and brackets, plus $30 flat rate shipping, UPS ground. Other options available.

Exchange has a $200 core charge.

How are you prepping the aluminum? Sand blast, phosphate dip, etc...??

This is my normal prep:
Calipers:
Disassemble
Wash in solvent tank
Wash with simple green
Bathe in phosphate
Rinse/Dry
Brackets:
Wash in solvet to remove grease from sliders
Strip stock paint in muriatic acid
Bathe in phosphate
Rinse/Dry

I have the same car as you w/ Z06 calipers, brackets powdercoated by Mike, and chrome brake pad covers. If I did it again, I woulda had Mike done the whole thing! Matches perfectly for MUCH less!

If I had a trailer queen that did the show circuit, I'd probably go the powder coat route, BUT, for $200 +, you can buy an awful lot of Dupli Colour or some such product. I painted my calipers over the last winter and I'm completely satisfied with the results. Bunch of miles on them since painting, no discolour and they wash up good with my wheel brush. They are just as bright and spiffy looking as the day I painted them!!

The Z06 calipers are the same ones as the coupe and vert calipers - only powdercoated red. Save yourself some bucks and just paint yours.
