i have done ALOT of research on this. bakyard buddy is one of the best units on the market. made in the USA (warren, ohio) and made with the best mat/tech, imho. you have to see it and then compare it to the others. there is a BIG difference between the 1,700-2,000 units mostly made in china and the bybuddy units. BIG DIFFERENCE. they usually frequent the big car shows with a lift, etc.. when my garage is done i will have three of them!
Wow, $4K is a lot for that thing. I bought a Bendpak SP-7X scissor lift, just a hair over $3K installed and delivered. You might want to check it out, it provides full clearance under the engine bay, clearance for the drive train so you can swap trannies, rear ends, etc. About the only thing I found I cannot do very easily is drop the gas tanks due to the design of the lift.
Other than that, it's a very easy lift to live with in the garage. I drive on and off it frequently since it's only 5 inches high when fully collapsed. I use it like a regular bay in my garage.
Also, it's a very safe and stabile left, just look at all the surface area underneath the car and where the lift meets the floor! All you do is insert your C5 jacking pucks into the frame, put their rubber blocks underneath the pucks, and lift 'er up!
I have been researching these for a couple of years and ordered a Revolution last week. Not cheap either but it has a lot of features and it is independantly certified.
I have two 4-post lifts in my garage, true you don't have to bolts them down but like anything I make sure when I raise or lower the hoist there are no distractions an probably over safe to make sure the hoist isn't hung up any where which would make the cable dump the track and that would cause a wreck.
I mantain my equipment just like I do my cars to try and do the best to avoid a malfunction.
I checked into different units, ended up with two from www.benco-equipment.com there was a dealer in ND but yes like almost everthing they are made in Japan.
I have owned Back yard buddy lifts. I take every opertunity to tell everyone not to buy that lift. The owner/management are lying cheating people and not to be trusted.
If the imported lifts were bad or dangerous the news media would be all over it. fact is, used improperly, any shop tool is dangerous. Look at the pic's of my garage. I wouldn't put my toys on a lift I could not trust. Both my lifts are imports (Americas Pride) and I trust them completely. I paid about 1800. per lift.
Think about it, is there over twice the amount of materials? Where is the money spent? Where is the value? Ok they are made here, but does that cost over twice? Come look at mine. they are nice.
i bought a bend pak two months ago 1895 inc ship to a buisness, extra 50 to house. fine quality, i had checked others at shows and not much diff. it is rated at 7000 lbs so will hold all cars. i did anchor to floor. it makes life so much easier. have used it a ton for oil changes and repairs. i cant see the reason to pay up to 4 grand for the same basic product.

WOW, the prices on the lifts mentioned so far are outrageous. I have a friend who is one of the largest distributors of lifts in the country who has a multitude of two and four post lifts for much less than those above. His name is Greg Smith and the link is below. He has two locations, Indianapolis and Newark, Delaware and ships world wide. If you call, ask for Greg and tell him Bob Dickerson sent you. I promise I get nothing for this but I just want him to know I'm steering some of my Forum Friends his way for better products at a far lower price than these other businesses are providing. BTW, unlike most distributors, he actually lists prices for his equipment on his website.
