Default Thermostat Temps??

I am ordering a new thermostat and was wondering what the ultimate temp is to get. I have seen 160, 170, 180 etc.. I live in Atlanta and the ambient temp gets unberable here any suggestions... Thanks in advance

Most people go with a 160 or 180 degree thermostat. The problem is that it won't actually lower the temperature that much. The lower thermostat actually opens earlier and delays the onset of the normal temperature.

The real difference occurs when the fans are programmed to come on earlier. Since you are in Atlanta, I'd give MTI Racing a call. There banner is on the left.

If you must change your stat, use a 180, 160 is too cool for proper running. Just changing the stat alone though will not lower your temp. You must change the temps to turn on and off the fans.

I put in a 178 t-stat.
...then I took the hypertech tune off so now the fans come on at regular temps.

I have a 180 stat with the following Fan Settings.
Fan 1 on 194 off 185
Fan 2 on 204 off 195

With these settings I run about 194-198 when I lived In Florida, I live in N.C. now still the same.

Also changeing the thermostat WITHOUT changing the fan settings won't do anything, you HAVE to change the fan settings.

Don't know the year of your Vette, but keep in mind that the only stat available for an '04 is a 160. None of the other heat ranges will fit the water pump.

I decided to stick with the factory 195 stat and simply lowered the fan settings. Does help to keep it somewhat cooler.

I went to the 172, didn't know that fans had to be changed. What should the changes be ? Anyone know who in the Metro Detroit area will change the fan settings, that is good...Thanks
