I'm sure it's been discussed before, but what are the main differences between the 2?
What are some of the good and bad things on each?
I'm looking to purchase one or the other, but I can't decide on the 2, the main difference I notice is the power and the body styling, which makes me lean towards a z06...
Basically the Z06 is quite different with a different engine, different transmission (including slightly different gearing), and different suspension. The coupe can be made just as fast with modifications and the big plus is you get to take the top off. I went with the Z because I love the looks of the hardtop bodystyle. The Z is definitely the complete package out of the box, and I'd estimate that a C5 coupe would need around 375rwhp to run with a stock Z06 due to the gearing, weight, and horsepower differences. I think they are both very sweet in their own respect and you should go with whichever one makes you happy. If you pride yourself on having a car that in stock form will beat 95% of the cars on the road at any given time get the Z. If you like to take the top off on nice days and enjoy the weather get the coupe; performance isn't everything. You should get whichever model gives you the most utility.

Could have gotten a convertable, they have the same style just a soft top, best of both worlds.
I would add to EricR's that if you plan on modding the hell out of the car you should get the coupe. While the Zs have great engines why pay more for stuff you will end up replacing anyway? Besides the C5 Zs make just a little more horse than a C6 coupe..... Reason I won't buy one is because the only one for sale around here (alaska) is a 04, they want 42k for it. For that price you could almost buy a C6.
I am looking at a convertable right now, I plan on modding it and since it will purely be a summer car why not go all the way right? Besides when you look at the price difference for the money you would most likely save on a couple over a Z06, you would probably get a supercharger.
Still pick whichever you like best, hardtops look the best and Zs are the fastest stock...... It doesn't matter what you get if your not happy with it.
The first link is from when the 2001 Z06 was introduced and the second shows the changes for the 2002 model year Z06. The 2003-2004 Z06's were the basically the same as the 2002, except for the shocks in the '04:

i pride myself on having a coupe that will beat 94% of the cars on the road @ any given time... bub
Get yourself a copy of the Corvette Black Book. IT contains all the differences of the cars. It's great resource when wanting to find quick answers about vettes!
As you can tell from the posts, the difference is all about speed.
If I were 30 years younger, (God please let me go back) I'd have the Z. Now at 60, my stock vert with Corsa's gives me all I need.
its alot easier to make a vert into a vert with z06 specs than to convert a z06 into a vert...
ie you can buy all the part to convert a vert into a zo6 cheap, but having the top chopped is expensive. imho buy the vert and add on the z06 parts like i am doing.
stock camaros and t/a's....not worried...ls2 gto's slightly worried
Honestly, worry more about the stock camaro and T/A. The LS2 GTO is horribly dragged down by torque management. I have a buddy with a 05 and it feels nowhere near as quick as my 99 coupe. Not to mention he can drive OK and can't better a 13.5@105 at Atco with his GTO.

I've run with LS1 Camaro's, T/A's, and GTO's and nosed ahead every time. Haven't had the chance to play with a LS2 GTO yet, but I think the numbers alone have me cautious to taunt!
I did play with a new(er) Viper soft-top convertible last weekend, and he walked away from me considerably... made me want to go get my big brother, the 06 Z... big bully!
