Oak Soft Top Owners - How Do You Get Marks Off?
Hi all you Canvas Oak colored top owners.
I have a 2001 convertible, Bowling Green with Oak top. My top has what I would describe as "Stow-Away" marks. They are a light shade of black, like someone scuffed the top with recently shined shoes. The marks are in the canvas top, between the door glass and the rear window glass.
I've tried regular car wash soap with no success. I then tried dish soap, but still no good. Anyone get those marks off without damage to the material and it's water repellent abilities?
I've seen many verts with these marks, so it's got to be a common problem for most here.

Ron - try Raggtopp products. They are a cleaner and a conditioner.
The cleaner does a really good job of cleaning the Light Oak top. Use a good quality soft brush. You may need to clean it a couple of times at first.
Once clean, a couple of good applcaitons of the Conditioner/Protectant will do wonders for your top. I take an old bedsheet, open the top partially (front and back up in air), run the sheet under the top and over the windshield and side windows and on the trunk deck, then close the top. This prevents overspray from the Conditioner from getting on the painted surfaces. You can clean it easily off the rear glass.
I bought my C5 over a year ago, did the 1st Raggtopp application last summer, 2 since, and my top is looking almost new. I had the streaks, spots, and stains all over it when I bought it.
Best of luck!
BTW - LOVE your color combination!

HMMMM - 3 identical cars with the same problem.
I like BuckIVette's bed-sheet idea, I will try that next time I treat the top. I used a plastic drop-cloth the last time I treated the Oak top on our (now gone) C4. I also like the Raggtop cleaner and conditioner, does a great job of cleaning those spots.

Make that 5.
I too have the oak top with the same problem. I tried Bon Ami like the owners manual stated but it hasn't worked yet.
