I have been considering changing the gearing for my 2004 coupe 6 speed. I understand the automatics came with a 2.72 set up, however the 6 speed came with a 3.42? Is that correct.
Any point in going higher? My 6th gear isn't much use below 85 mph. Your thoughts? Thanks!

Auto's came with either 2:73's or the performance axle 3:15's, Manuals came with 3:42's
Thanks for the heads up. I am running a forged bottom end and a sc. Car will be used mostly on the street, 3-4 times per year on track.
Any point in going to higher ratio. 6th gear currently is barely useable.
Your thoughts?
Gears help acceleration EXCEPT when you cannot hook up. With a SC, you should probably talk with the guys in forced induction regarding gearing. I have 4.10 gears and they make the car much quicker, but I can hook up. Sixth gear has value and the car will pull in 6th so I don't think I have lost much, if any, top end. However, I don't try for top end as I run out of courage before the car runs out of go.
Good question. My instinct tells me that the car would perform better on the track with lower gearing and the overdrive (6th gear) would be far more useful for daily driving if it could be used at around 2000 rpm at 75 vs 95mph(as is currently the case).
As for gas mileage, not concerned with 1-2 mpg if it yield better performance.

I would talk with the guys over in the Forced Induction section. With that much power, I would stay with the 342's most tend to do that, that I have seen, but you never know.
