I had to put in some fuel in the "Z" and the credit card reader was being finicky.
I went inside and told the guy running the pumps that the card was fine, that I'd used it yesterday. He immediately asked what year the car was, and that his car was almost the same color! Turns out, the guy used to own a '66 convertible big block with dual tops and a black interior. He remembered the Z06 option back a ways and loved the car I ended up giving him a mini-tour of the car, opened the hood etc. He loved the mod-red interior also. It's funny, once you own a 'vette...it is an infectious love for other 'vettes.
Steven was the guys name(don't want to keep saying "HE" or "HIM") and said times are tough for our generation with the rising cost of things, fuel, cars etc. The 1966 'vette He previously owned was $4800 brand new! Gas was also wayyy under a dollar back then.
I thought it was pretty cool how my car was appreciated and complimented and wanted to share that with you.

Good story. I love those moments. I'm sure you were proud.

Cool story!
If he had "given" you a free tank of gas, he would have had to pay for it himself. When I was in college, I worked at a small convenience store/gas station. The books had to balance at the end of the night. I'm sure that he would not have been working there if he could afford to do such things.
I had a similar experience today, except the other guy was an Alabama State Trooper at the next pump. Nice guy ... we talked about my car a while and he said he used to have a '95 and regrets to this day getting rid of it. He might be a C5 owner before too long.

Since he was in such a good mood, you should have tried to get a PBA card from him.....
