If i'm coming to a red light, is it better to put the car in neutral or downshift? I've heard so much controversy over this and i was wondering what you guys think thanks.

I am in no way an expert. If coming to a red light, I will put it in neutral and brake to the light. But, if I was in a corner, downshift and hold those rpm's...

That's the way I do it. Coming to a red light....put it in neutral. Coming up to a corner....downshift and then grin like hell!!

Me personally, i like to downshift to save the brakes. I rev to match the R's and it's smooth as glass. I like the assistance the transmission gives especially on a down hill stop. Also there is less brake dust when u downshift and help the car slow down first. Just my .02 cents.

Me thinks that brakes might be cheaper to replace than a clutch... I could be wrong.

I used to work at AAMCO Transmissions and had this conversation with my Boss. He simply pointed out the fact that the Brakes are CHEAP as compared to a clutch job.

Habit has me downshifting most often....
Old farm kid habit..

When I engage my brain, I realize that yes, brakes are cheaper...

Smooth shifter no matter what... I like the performance of the 6 speed offering...

Drive on!!

If you know how to downshift correctly there should be no serious wear on your clutch or syncros.

I leave the clutch out until just under 1k rpms. Whether I downshift or not is the only thing that is the real factor. Coming to a light in 4th? I'm not downshifting. Coming to a light in 5th? I'll downshift. I always downshift for turns.

I don't put it in neutral - I just press the clutch in and use the brakes. Never know when you might need the car in gear for an emergency maneuver,
