Friends - just this week my 98 stock coupe started giving off strong fumes of what smells like fuel and possibly exhaust fumes. Tank has been in the 1/2 to 3/4 full since I started to smell the fumes so I ruled out the overflow.
No fuel that I can see on the garage floor and it smells like its coming from the engine compartment because it will pull into the driver compartment when the "fresh air" vent is on.
This just started all of the sudden and was not a gradual thing . . .
If it's not your fuel filter leaking then check the service valve. It's a small shraeder valve that's on the front tip of your driver side fuel rail. Unscrew the black cap and you will see the valve. If that is what it is you probably would have a hard time starting your car when the tank gets to about 1/4 or less. The valve costs $5.00 but you need the one from the dealer only if that's what it is.
