The rear shocks on my '04 with mag ride are leaking at 42,000 miles. Of course they're not covered by GMPP since they're "maintenance" items. Seems like something so expensive should be covered regardless. Has anyone else had to replace their mag ride shocks that early? What do the shocks alone cost?
Thanks.
Ron
Just one more example of the poor quality I've come to expect from GM lately. I love the car when it's working right but that's becoming less and less often.

Shocks leaking at 42K miles is a GM quality issue? Really? You're driving a two year old car (maybe 3 depending on the build date), you've got 42K miles - assuming 3 years, that's an average of 14K miles per year. I would think that you got your money's worth from the shocks......
I've heard the shocks are rather expensive - but you might consider checking with Fred Beans or Fichtner for pricing.
There was someone selling some low mileage shocks off his 2003 in the "parts" section of the forum. They are listed as F45 but if they came off a 2003 it would be the F55 shocks instead.

Never mind, he clarified that they were off a 2002 instead of a 2003 (making them f45 shocks).
I've wondered myself what the cost of replacing these shocks are going to be when the time comes. I've got a 2003 with the F55. Hope the price goes down before I have to replace mine (has almost 30,000 miles now).

Sorry pal but I have to disagree with u here. Given the price of these shocks 42k and leaking is unacceptable. These arent your 29.99 shocks from wally world.

The struts on our other car have 9 years/120K on them and they're as good as new. Glad I went for the Z51 on the Vette for $395.
Thanks for the input. I love the mag ride so I'll most likely just bite the bullet.
Interestingly it only started leaking after the dealer replaced the gas tank - another quality issue. Anyone ever have a broken gas tank? Maybe the dealer will donate a new set of mag ride shocks. Right!
