Props to Discount Tire. I took my Vert in today and since I have purchased many tires from them, they balanced them for free. Took them an hour on the rack. They said balancing Vette's was a pain, dur to the width and size. The minimum they were off on each tire was 9.25 ounces.
Huge difference! Wow, what if more people had the committment to customer service that DT has? Sure they did not maximize their profit by doing a freebe, but I will buy from them exclusively, because of the way they continue to treat me.

I buy all my tires from DT. On you other cars they will rotate & balance for the life of the tire if you buy from them. They will also do a lifetime free flat repair. It you get a non DT tire fixed there they charge you like $15 but they give it back to you on your next purchase. The are the shizzle

Good to know for the future. Thanks for the heads up
I'm from the SE - mostly. In 04 I drove my Vette to visit a friend in Bellingham, WA. I picked up a nail in the right rear tire. My friend is not a car guy and didn't know any good tire shops. I was at the mercy of fate to find someone to fix a runflat. I called the GM/Goodyear Authorized Runflat repair service locator and they gave me the address of a place called 'Discount Tire'. I cringed....
In the South, they don't have this business. A place called 'Discount Tire' will most likely be a shack behind a Truckstop owned and operated part time by Bubba's cousin, Bubba. (Southerners are allowed to poke fun at ourselves)
I was VERY pleased to find a modern service shop run by 'car guys'. The assistant mgr took care of me personally. He told me Corvettes run in his family. He unwrapped new nylon covers for the tire changer and tools, took his time and was super careful. He dismounted the tire, handed me the pressure sensor for safekeeping and proceded to patch and plug the tire, balance, torque the lugs and sensor per specs. It took 45 mins from liftoff to tire touchdown.
He charged me $15.
I now live in the Seattle area where this business is commonplace. They get ALL my tire business.

I buy ALL my tires at Discount Tire. I also discovered over a year ago that you can "insure" your tires against ANY damage to them which they will replace/repair at no cost (other then what you paid to insure them).
Even better (at least for me) is that you can insure tires that were not purchased at their stores. For example, when I bought my C-6, over a year ago (with factory tires) and my C-5, Z06 recently, also with factory tires - I insured them!!!
America's- Discount Tires has replaced more then one tire for my on my cars. I work in an area that is prone to picking up construction nails - and the nails have puncured the sidewall necessitating the replacement of the tire.
discount gets all my business. they know the meaning of CUSTOMER SERVICE
I drove 120 miles to buy tires for my 2002 coupe a couple of months back at Discount Tire in Beaumont, Texas. It was worth the trip. I wish they would expand to Louisiana!

I've used them exclusively for years for all my tire purchases. First class customer service wiil make the difference every time in my book and they definitely have that. My wife and my daughter have had to use two seperate stores across town when I've been on a trip and they treated them great. None of the usual "screw over a woman" stuff. Discount Tire gets my vote and business!
9+ ounces for each tire It sounds like you have some sort of problem there!! Did they move the tire around on the wheel to try to reduce the balance weight? Typically a 1/4 to 1/2 turn of the tire on the wheel can reduce the balance weight by a bunch.
If the DT store had a Hunter GSP9700 machine, they would have been able to get the balance correct in very little time with no issues. It's a pricey machine so all of the DT store may not have them. Vette wheels are not so big as to cause problems compared to some of the ueber-bling wheels that are sold locally. I could only imagine how tough it could be to service something like a 22" or 24" wheel.
But DT does do a great job and I have always taken my work there. They go out of ther way to help out and their level of customer service makes people come back.
