I was sold a car hauler on which the bed height is just shy of 19 inches. I was told I would have no problems loading my non lowered Z06 on this trailer. To make a long story short there is no way with the 5 ft. ramps I have. Does anyone have a good guess what length ramps I need to get to 19 inches without a trip to the body shop?
Also, any recommedations on a system to strap the car down would be great!
Here's what I did. Get 2 pieces of 6x6 wood posts about 12"-14" long. Take 2 2x10 boards about 5' long. Nail one end of the 2x10 to the 6x6 laying cross wise leaving the edge at the mid point of the 6x6. Remove the ramp from the trailer and secure end to trailer. Place the other end of the trailer ramp on top of the 6x6 butting the 2x10. This will give you a 10' ramp to travere the 19" of height. My trailer has a beaver tail which helps somewhat by decreasing the height of the trailer bed at the rear. It works well for me and should work with a lowered car as well.
Andy, I just built a trailer for my Z06. My trailer is 19.5" off the ground. I have a 4.5" beavertail. That puts the rear at 15". The MINIMUM ramp length to load a Z06 is 6' for a 15" deck height. I dont know how to post the pix here but I'll try to email you one. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Thanks for the help guys! I'll get some metal next week and start welding next week. Do you guys have a favorite way to strap the car to the trailer. I was thinking of looping through the front wheels and mabey areoun the rear axel's.
