Default Key Fob Question

My fob died. I put a new battery in it and did the relearn procedure
and it worked OK for the day. Next day, it's not working again. I figured maybe I got a bad battery. Went through same thing agian with a new battery. Any suggestions? Do the Fobs go bad?

Fobs go bad . Mine did. The dealer checked the reciever in the car first and found it was a bad fob. Since then I have had no problems

Take the fobs completely apart and clean all of the contacts, including the battery with a cotton cloth. While you're in there, bend the battery contacts out a little bit so they'll make a more firm connection with the battery.

I did this with both of my fobs that had the exact same symptoms. They both work like new now....
Hope this fixes it for ya.

If that doesn't work for some reason, then go to EBAY. I just found some for a 2000 vert that were almost impossible to find. (for a good price) They got here quick and for a reasonable price.

Going to be doing the cleaning routine on mine too - same symptoms as yours.

Not to hijack the thread, but.........

I cleaned both our fobs with contact cleaner, bent the battery contacts out, and did the re-learn procedure. Both have been working great until this past weekend. At a Corvette event in Lake Tahoe the Window Valet quit working. I could lock & unlock, but nothing with the Window Valet. Anyone ever experience this?

Check that the Window Valet is pushed in all the way. That would have nothing to do with the fob.

Yep, did that (several times). It may be time to (gasp) buy a new fob .

If you mean you could use the FOB to lock and unlock, then I would think your Window Valet problem will not get better by replacing the FOB - it seems to be working. If you mean that you lock and unlock manually, and the FOB will not lock or unlock the car, then maybe it is bad.

For the 97-99 Fobs the average eBay price runs about $75 by the end of the auction. For another $10 you can buy a brand new Fob from Fred Beans

Both of my FOB's died. Dealer cost for two new ones $260.00 Ouch! That was a painful purchase!

I bought a new OEM fob off ebay for $9.99 including shipping. Works great!

Yes, the fob will lock & unlock the car, but the window valet does not work with my fob. **UPDATE** When we got home from the trip, I tried the second fob and all functions, including window valet, work.
