I have an 02 C5 coupe, and as I was driving to the golf course Sat morning on I-40, I saw a blue C5 heading the other direction, only to shortly thereafter see a red C6 following him. While I had probably realized it before, seeing the two different models in the same environment from a similar distance reinforced some prior observations I had.

As much as I typically seem to like the "newest" version of most cars, I have to say that the body shape and lines of the C5 just seem to be more distinctive, fluid, sexy, and eye-catching than the C6. I'm certainly not posting this with the intent of starting a flame war - everybody's entitled to their own opinion, and I realize some, maybe most wouldn't agree. However, even though I may be a bit biased since I have a C5, I truly prefer the exterior look of it over the C6 - just seems like the lines on the C6 are sharper than I prefer. A guy I work with has a red 05 C6, and I don't think I'd trade him straight up.

Anyway, I was just wondering what the general opinion is amongst Vette owners regarding the exterior styling comparison of the two. Again, just my opinion, and I'm relatively new to the forum, so please don't anybody take offense. Just interested to hear what others think about the styling comparison of the two models....

I just bought a 2004 C5 with 2K on it. I could have bought a 2005 C6
for the same $$. Just liked the C5 sooo much better.
AND last year of the popups..

 

I've been trying to like the C6--thought it would grow on me, but it hasn't. If it was, I think it would by now.

As you said, the lines on the C6 are too sharp--it does not have the sexy curves of the C5. Mine is a 2002 and if I want to get a newer vette, it would be a 2004.

 

 

I have to agree I like the looks of the C5 better, but I would still like to buy C6 for the improvements in power, ammenities, etc.. Maybe in 2 or three years. In the meantime I love my C5 coupe!

 

ONLY C6 I will take over my MY C5 is the Z06..

 

 

I agree, the C5 just looks better all the way around. By the way, I'm from Belews Creek. What color so I can be on the look-out

 

All the press at C6 launch were ranting on about how much smaller and nimbler it was than C5 yet they look and drive all but identical to me! Although the overhangs have been trimmed fractionally at both ends it's still fundamentally the same car, with small improvements in all areas - except one. Shame someone thought it was a good idea to put a Toyota Celica nose on America's Sportscar and then ignore the need for a tidy front license plate! Somehow the Z06 nostril makes the front better.

 

I do own a C5...

BUT

I like the "smaller" look of the C6
I like the exposed headlights on the C6
I like the "mouth" Grill on the C6
and I like the *** end better also...

That said...overall the C5 wins... just a smoother package.. my major dislike on the C5 is the front end...it just does not "speak" to me"...
since I like the above mentioned areas of the C6 it may seem sytrange but
overall I like the C5 better

You Know I like my vert but sure wouldn't mind the new tech goodies the nav and the extra ponies C6 ZO 6 is my choice although can always do more mods

 

Yeah, I don't know what it is, but the C6 Z06 looks meaner than the non-Z06 version -- don't know if there are any significant differences between the two, though. I'd definitely buy a new Z06.

 

Give the new guy some slack...

You'll find that the C5 section will predictably prefer the look of the C5 as I do myself. Post this question on the C6 Gen section and your responses will be quite different.

The first clue I have that a Vette's headed my way is the position of the DRL's. Low and on opposite corners. It's hard to tell a C6 from far away using those same clues. Several times I've thought it was a C6 but turned out to be something else.

My perfect car would be the innards of the C6 with the body of the C5. THAT would be sharp.

 

It's the flared fenders, the wider tires, the nostril up front, and just knowing it has over 500 hp ready to go that makes it look meaner, IMHO.

 

Y'know I do honestly like the C6 but not nearly as well as I like the C5.

Corvettes are supposed to have pop-up headlights. I really miss them on the C6. I also do not like the new rear end.

The better performance and the new interier (especially the factory nav and power top) might be enough to make me consider buying a C6 some day.

Personally I am hoping that there will be a C7 (complete with pop up head lights) out by the time I'm looking to replace my '01 vert.

 

The 2006 Z06 in black or silver is the only way I would give up my C5 coupe.

I would like 2004 Vert in spiral grey, black interior.

 

I love the looks of my C5. However, that said, if I had the opportunity to get a C6, I might make the switch.
