Anyone have any ideas on this one? When I lower my headlights one of the motors continues to turn for about 10 seconds after the lamp is closed. This producces a loud grinding noise for that 10 seconds which is kind of embarrasing. Any sugestions?
Guaranteed to be the chewed up plastic gears. Best bet is to buy the brass gears from on of the supporting vendors. Easy to do once you get the head light assembly out.
when my teeth were broken it did the same thing. get the brass gears to fix it permenantly, just be careful resealing the motor as the epoxy does not always hold.

Another question. If I just replace the gear with the nylon part # 42400 (because I am kinda cheap), does this not include the rubber inside the gear? Will I have to retain my stock rubber bumper? If so, what if mine is destroyed like blacksedan described, can I buy it some where??

On a side note, if you have small enough hands the motor can be easily removed without removing the headlight assembly. I recently helped a friend with his 02 Z06 headlight gear and we did NOT remove the assembly. The assembly removal would probably have added at least another hour to the job.

Hi, I'm having the same issue on one of my head lights. I've never ordered a part for my vette before, can someone lead me in the right direction. Is there a specific part #?
Please let me know, Thanks.

Some folks have had problems with ALL vendors but I used Eklers on this part with no problem at all. Not sure part number, but mention your headlight won't go up and they will get the right thing for you.
www.ecklers.com online or call them. This was the Rodney Akman kit, I think that is the name. Easy to install. Kit comes complete with new metal gear, epoxy, grease, and a t-bar stiffner.
Remove the entire assembly per instructions, this allows you to easily put it back together, plus you can clean ouot all around insde this area of your car. You can also remove just the gear box if you wish, but I could not get my little fingers in there.
