Default oil change this sat!!!!!!!

cant wait to change the oil this weekend. i got a new pair of rhino ramps but i dont have a floor jack. i see that a lot of folks like to jack up the rear to get every drop of oil out.i like to know how many of you drain the oil without jacking up the back and how much oil comes out

If you have a driveway that slants/slopes some, you can put the ramps on the slope and drive up on the ramps and you can adjust where you put the ramps on the slope so you get the best of both worlds...the front on the ramps and the rear slightly higher than the front...just be sure to block off the back wheels as a safety net...

doesnt matter what the consensus is, you will still havedirty oil left in there if you dont jack the rear.

I bought a jack and 4 jack stands from Sears for less than $50.00. Add another $10.00 for some oak boards from Lowes to go between the stands/jack and crossmembers and you are set.

why anyone would waste their time trying to get every last drop of oil out is insane. Think about it, the amount of oil left in the pan is not going to affect the 6 qurts your'e gonna put in. This is the most absurd thing I've ever heard of.

pick it up 1 hour later.....$98.97...WTF. "a little" my a$$

Then you need to keep changing the oil your way if if satisfies you. I personally, as many others, change the oil with the rear higher that the front.
Would you change your tranny fluid in an auto by just removing the drain plug and refilling?

It is amazing how split Corvette owners are in determining how to change oil and how much oil to put back in, etc. etc......simply amazing.....
Now I'm thinking that its all nuts...a Corvette is not the freakin Space Shuttle...I do not think it will matter a single bit in 150,000 miles one way or the other....
I now realize that it probably will not matter even one bit if you get every drop of oil out or if you put in 1/4 of a quart more than someone else...if the engine could only speak english

I got a quote from the dealership, 80 bucks and id have to leave it, and couldnt watch. Soooo...

I had mine changed today at a quicklube place, cost me 55.00. They didnt jack the car up at all, lowered car all the way on stock bolts, and it went right over the rails on the "pit".

I made sure how much it cost, and made sure I could watch them pour it in there instead of using the pumps, because you dont know what comes out of them pumps.

I got the manual out of the dash to confirm the filter and amount, and they put 6 and a half quarts in, let it sit about 3 mins, cranked it up, then checked and it was dead on the money on the full line.

I was happy with the service, and especially the price since the oil alone is about 35 bucks(called Parts store before I went). So to me, it was worth paying 20 bucks not to have to jack a car up, get under it, etc.....

Ill go back there next time too.

I do the same. but I take my own Mobil 1 and Delco filter. The guys take very good care and understand my wants. $19.95 labor + my parts $30 for a COSTCO case of M1 and $3.50 for a Delco filter from Fred Beans.

Still far from cheap, but I don't have to lay down my twice repaired back on a creeper any more

I just believe in doing things the "right" way. I guess I'm a little **** in that respect. I also believe in doing the maintenance myself if at all possible. That way I know the jobs is done correctly. (Well, most of the time.)

jrprich--Just be careful who you have working on your car. I once took my vert years ago to Jiffy Lube for an oil change. After it was done I had a scratched fender from the redneck's wallet chain and oil dripped all in the engine compartment.

Forget the ramps, just get a good jack to use. I jack mine up to get to the drain plug and filter, then let it down and raise the back, to get all the oil out.

I put the car up on Rhino Ramps and then raise the back end. Works for me even if it may be a little ****.
