just thought I'd post an update
Had my court appearance today.
I pled "no contest" and in light of my driving record, they dropped the ticket
All I had to pay were court costs, so it just goes to show: it pays to go to court!
Also, you can call your insurance company and ask if they have a period of time between tickets (i.e. USAA will turn their head on tickets that have six years between them) and see if you have a grace period between tickets. BTW, the call didn't impact my insurance, because they really can't do anything until the ticket post on your record.
lol, if you read the post you replied to... things did indeed work out
Thank you anyway though!

Take the defensive driving school option if offered. As mentioned, it'll cost you some money and take up some personal time, but there's no points on your record.
If you plead "not guilty" and go to court, the defensive driving school option is null and void. I'm retired LEO of 26 years.
I commend you on your attitude of accepting responsibility for your actions. If you decide to go to court, take that mature attitude with you and go prepared. Believe me when I say that police officers, prosecutors and judges are very receptive to people who present mature and well prepared defenses.
The outcome came quicker than my reply. Good work!

Are you sure you were speeding???? Get a good lawyer..... Fight it.....
Maybe the cop won't show up......
It's good to hear someone admit they were speeding and not trying to find a way out of the ticket. It could happen to anyone of us. This was your turn. I'm sure anyone of us cold be next.
well, it finally happened. Got pulled over in the 'vette today. Officer was extremely nice. Very professional and polite - I rather liked him. Sadly, he didnt give me a break
Oh well, it happens. I was speeding, end of story.
This is my 2nd ever ticket (the previous being 5 years ago this august). Now, normally I'd just suck it up and pay, but it was 69 in a 55, and since I'm 23, that would probably suck for my insurance. So, I'm guessing I should go to court and try to get the points dropped.
I've never done this before, so I was hoping I could get some advice/pointers. I've never done the courthouse thing before, so how do I do this?
A note ... the cop may have already given you a break by writing it up as 69 in 55 zone. In some states if it is 15 mph over the speed limit it is a much much more serious offense, they can tow your car in on the spot etc... Good luck... my worst fear is that I would get a speeding ticket when not driving my corvette, that would be embarassing!
Sounds like you're getting lots of good advice. I'd like to add a suggestion that you go ahead and contact the District Attorney's office in the county (or other jurisdiction) where you got the ticket. I did this on my last out of town ticket and they actually reduced the ticket to a no points offense over the phone. I still paid court costs but all I had to do was mail it in. No trip to court and no lawyer required.
If traffic school or other option is available it would be good to know your options before the court date if possible. It's kind of hard to think clearly while standing in front of the judge. (I know this from experience.)
See if they offer a Defensive Driving course that you can take and have the record of the ticked removed. May cost about the same as the ticket, but if you are worried about your insurance, it's a good way to go.
In NYS anyways...it doesn't "erase" the ticket, but it does reduce the points.
lol, once again (since it seems more or less everyone missed it):
it's over
I went to court, plead "no contest" and everything was dropped/dismissed. All I had to do was pay court costs.
ummmm, minority opinion though this may be, i disagree with this. allow me to offer some novel thoughts: drive responsibly. drive within (or darn near) the speed limit. some wise british prime minister said in the 1800s "we make our fortunes then we call them fate." i guess when he chose to speed in his corvette (or whatever they drove fast back then) he bemoaned his plight to bad luck or fate. let's take responsibility for what we do. bub
FWIW, my wife has gotten a few speeding tickets in the last couple of years. She pays the fine then goes to court. Every ticket she has 'fought' (No Lawyer), she has gotten the points tossed and a reduction in the fine. She looks at it as getting cash back , but it does save an increase in insurance premiums.
