Rumours have been around for a long time about a super corvette making its appearance. Could this be it. Possibly also a Mallet conversion? It came from a newspaper called US Auto Scene, from 8/13/01. I think that this could be just like the previous high performance vette from GM's skunkwerks that was the precursor to the Z06. Why the money to develop the 7.0L block just for the C5R. This could be the street version - I hope so - If it is then I am headed down to the dealer with a deposit. - 742HP - Supercharged & intercooled - This could be the one!!
Pretty sure they could make one without teeth. They don't appear integral to the design. Problem with GM is that they keep showing off such "toys" and never producing for us. 742 hp is extreme for most prospective buyers, but they could easily bring out a 500 - 550 hp 427 without the supercharger. Let's see it, GM. With that kind of power at a reasonable price (around 5K for engine upgrade alone?), I'd definitely do it.
Check out the latest Autoweek issue. They also have some interesting super Vette news. Sum it up quickly.
1.100,000 dollar range
2.Will directly compete against exotics from Ferrari and Porsche
3.Will be its own model under the Corvette name(like 911 and Boxter are Porsches)
4.Possible rumor of using a upcoming super V12 making est 750hp(The engine has been developed under the Cady badge and will be in a upcoming prototype.
My take on all this is very possible to do a spared no expense VETTE.
How many of us would like better power more styling better fit and finish and high tech materials and a kick everybody foot car.
Also the rumor of dividing the Corvette to its on dealer network and being a stand alone brand all make sense now that there could be at least 4 different models.
Also next year the C5R race program will be selling up to 6 cars for private teams.... Leaving the factory with a all new super Vette race car to kill the cheatin Saleen S7 and up and coming 550 maranello GTSR and rumor of Porsche taking a stab at GTS. Soooooo we might get a look at this super Vette as early as 2002 race season because in GTS class you at least have to have plans on bringing the car to the public. More racing news is IRL will have Chevy engines running in 2002. So back to the INDY 500 we go.....
The pieces are all starting to fall into place. As long as the economy stays stable this could happen.
