My 2001 vert- it came with a block heater. It has evey option on it, but a block heater? Someone must of intended to drive it in some pretty cold weather I guess. It does have the Canadian export option. Hate those headlights that can't be turned off. Everytime I drive in the garage they popup.

Can't- GM BLOCKS IT FOR THE CANOOKS. It's on the message board but everytime you hit the reset it don't do anything.

Call a dealer. Maybe the DIC can be reprogrammed to keep the lights off.

You answered your own question. Popular option on Canadian exports.

There's a sensor in the dash vent left hand side that controls the headlights. Pop out the grille with a couple of small screwdrivers. Then remove the harness from the sensor and install a 1.8k ohm resistor. Just don't drop the harness into the dash when you're doing this or if you ever want to reconnect it you'll be taking out the gages to get to it. I tied some black thread to it and taped it to the inside of the vent before closing things up. Once done your headlights will only operate manually. I hope this helps you out.

Guess your's really does have every option on it. Don't recall anyone else mentioning that they had a block heater on their car.

I also read somewhere in this Forum,, there's a person that sells a small circuit board that bypasses the sensor which will allows u to turn th elights on manually, No wire cutting supposed to be an easy install. I'll try and find it and let u guys know.. ( But this is probably for the Canadian vettes,, )

My '01 vert has the block heater too. Like yours it was built for canadian export. It's got the 300 mph speedo, oil pressure in kPa and the coolent temp in celius.

Even thought my vette is a DD and we had some days in the low teens this winter I never used that block heater. Of course my vette spends its nights in my heated garage.

Yes the speedo goes to 300, that's because you can read it either in KM or MPH just by pushing a button on the DIC. But my guages are always metric for the water tenp and oil pressure. Thats hard to get used to 300 oil pressure and 90 water temp. That elec. cord hanging on the alt for the blk htr just looks out of place on a vette. My uncle asked me if it had a diesel engine when I mentioned it has a blk htr- hahalmao!
Yea I would like to put the resistor into the circut to disarm the auto headlights. Thanks everyone for the info

So on the American cars you guys cant change from metric to imp??
Ive got the block heater too, but wont be driving in the winter, also i like my temp in Ferenheit, my speed in km's and my tires pressure in psi, so im always changing back and forth.

The DIC and speedo can be changed from Imp to Metric and they hold what ever they are set to. However, the oil pressure and coolant temp gauges can't be switched. They are always in kPa and Celcius. However, you can get Imp readings on both via the DIC.
