Well, after ignoring the the recall notices (glad that I did), I finally installed the CLB. The installation went smoothly, hardest part was putting it back together. Lining up the the panel was my biggest challenge but otherwise it was a snap. I know it's a matter of not if my steering was going to lock but when. Now I have no worries and can just enjoy driving my FRC!
Cogratulations, you did the right thing. I can't believe how many posts I've read saying they have the CLB sitting in their draw playing Russian roulette with the column locking.
Now go get GM to reimburse you for the price of the CLB cause you fixed their problem for them.
Congrats. You're one of the smart ones. Lot better simply not to worry about the issue rather than trying to figure out *if* GM finally has the right fix.
Mine has been sitting in the box because of te panel removal deal, having never pulled them off before. Guess it's time to give it a try.
By the way, did you use the "pull the fuse" technique or the 9 volt battery through the cig lighter ?
Thanks
Dont be afraid of the panels. Its very easy to pull apart and put back in, dont rush. Just line up the panel screw clips underneath and it will just pop back into place!
PS- no need for the cig lighter thing if you have the latest version of CLB from thunderracing or corvettes of houston. (JMX) Pull fuse 23 for 10 sec to reset the BCM. See instructions for full detail on it...very easy
