Default Theft Deterrent System

The Corvette does come with a "fairly good" theft deterrent system but can it be temporarily enhanced by removing a strategic fuse to lets say disable the ignition or fuel system?

I don't know if this actually makes sense but I figured if you create an additional obstacle it might be enough of a deterrent to discourage a thief. I know, if someone really wants it their going to get it but this is meant to target someone besides a pro with a flatbed truck.

As far as I know the theft deterrent system on C5's (at least my '03) will shut off the fuel if the car is not started with a key with the proper resistor in it.

get yourself a transmission lock. wraps around the gearshift and is bolted to the bottom of the car. no thief has the time to defeat it(practically) but i geuss it could still be towed. nothing absolutely theft proof

I put one of these in my 1970 Plymouth Cuda 340. I spliced into the primary lead to the distributor and it worked very well, but that was back in 1972.

The dilemma of today is I can't seam to find the distributor on my 04 Z06 . What would be the ideal wire to splice into on today's Corvettes?

there is a ground wire coming from the starter relay in the passenger floor board that i used. i just ran a toggle switch and without the connection the car will not start with or without the key.

I no longer believe keeping a car from starting will keep it safe....i've had a car stolen and after a long plice investigation (of a HUGE ring in the DC area) the police were almost positive my car was flat-bedded from the crime scene. Same principle as "no one pays attention to car alarms anymore" - you see a tow truck come get a car people assume its either broken down or there's a lean on it or something.

Bottom line, short of flame throwers, electric shock, a big *** dog, or a trunk monkey , where there's a will theres a way. I'll be saving my money on future mods.

It's pretty easy. Especially on our FRCs as they are all 6 speeds. The clutch switch has two leads going to it. Pick either one (doesn't matter) and connect a switch in series with it. You can pick where in the harness you want to tap into it, and of course you can also pick the nicely hidden location of where you want the switch.
Won't start. With or without the key.

BTW, one of the two leads on the clutch switch goes on over the the TDR (Theft Deterrent Relay) on the pax side floorboard.

I would recommend using a reasonably good quality switch, since you will be using it quite a bit and a cheapo won't hold up. I used a black rocker DPST. If one set of contacts should ever fritz out on me, I can just unplug the connectors and change over to the fresh set.

I travel quite a bit and have to leave the vette in airport parking garages. After I apply the Club, I pop the hood and remove the Fuel Pump fuse. Then close the hood and set the alarm. I put the fuse in my pocket and take it with me.

I can just imagine the questions you might get from airport security.
