I just purchased a C5 (well in Feb) and have put 1035
miles on it .. I just want to paint the brake calibers
and realized I need those so called hockey pucks to get the car up on a lift so all 4 wheels can be removed at one time...
Where to buy them? quick read on the forum said regular hockey pucks work...??? ok BUT will they stay ON THE CAR... like can I install them (how) so they remain on the car ..
I have 2 4 post lifts at the house and neither work rather well for brake/wheel work so I never have had the C5
up on the low raise lift only the 4 posters...
I made a set of pucks using regulation hockey pucks & wing screws. They're only used during the lifting process - insert into the tie-down slots in the frame, give a 1/4 turn & they will remain in place while you position the lift arms, & compress against the frame rails when you lift.
I use plain old hard rubber hockey pucks without any bolts in them. Keep a couple in the rear compartment just in case I need to lift it somewhere where they don't know about the body wrapping underneath.
Personally - I've gone the hockey puck route, and I keep them in the car (and I don't mean attached, I mean in the trunk in a bag) in case I have to have the car serviced by someone that doesn't have some sort of lifting pad.
I just received the round BMW snap in plastic pucks from BAVARIAN AUTO SPORT, the same source above. They're permanently mounted on my car.
Order part #51-71-1-960-752 (x4).
I don't have to remember to install/remove them for service. Someone here not long ago posted they forgot to remove theirs and one fell out. Aside from the racket, it might cause something/someone some damage.

I picked up a 12-pack for $11 at Dick's Sporting Goods. Drilled a small center hole inserted a screw-eye in each of 4 of them. Before going to the hardware store, measure the length/width of the holes to make sure you don't get screw-eyes too big or too small.
As far as leaving them in, I don't like the looks of them, and I don't want to take a chance on them hanging up on a speed bump or other raised surface -- mine stay off the car when not in use. And speaking of not in use ...

I also have a four post, and I've had all four tires off at once -- jacks and jackstands in jack trays work well enough that I haven't had to touch the hockey pucks for months.
Thank you guys....seems like regular Hockey Pucks
"stored" in the trunk is the way to go... I'm lazy tats why I asked about mounting them and leaving them in the car... LOL
Only need to do brake/wheel work ocassionally so the
car will be put on one of my 4 post lifts 96 percent of the time anyway... I hate getting down on my hands and knees to adjust the lift arms on the lose raise lift...
Best way to go. Never worry again!. get the BMW's - they are cheaper than those made for Corvettes. Just be sure theyu snap in tight. Real Hocky pucks are the very cheapest way to go, but it's kind of cool that the BMW parts fit!

I want to buy the BMW snap-in round pucks but I'm having trouble navigating the site mentioned above. They want me to enter the year and model of "BMW" I have before I can search and I can't search for the item number 51-71-1-960-752 directly. What year and model BMW are these for?
