Default A little advise please...

Hey everyone. I just have a question for the people here who've had both the experience of driving a Corvette with an automatic and manual transmission.

How would you compare the experience of driving an auto with a manual transmission? Does it take away from the fun factor? Is it slower? More or less reliable?

You see, I usually skim eBay every now and then for Corvettes just to know what I should expect to pay for my ideal Corvette when I get around to buying one. Nearly every time I find what appears to be the perfect 'Vette (right color, good mileage, condition, price), it ends up that it has an auto transmission.

I'm almost ready to just fold and buy an auto vette, but I thought I'd check with you guys to make sure I wouldn't be making a big mistake. :o

Get the manual.

That is all.

If you want an M6, do not settle for an auto. You will not be happy.

Well, I've wanted a manual simply because I'm assuming it's better than the automatic. I don't personally know from experience if it is as I've never driven either, so that's where the people who did come in...

There are a few things that can determine this decision.

Is the car going to be a Daily Driver?
Have you ever driven a manual before?
Is there a lot of traffic where you live?
Are you a spirited Driver, or do you like to just cruise?

Answer those questions and they should help you decide. It is ultimately your decision. I have an automatic and I love it! It is an amazing car manual or automatic. Get what you will be happy with not what everyone tells you to get.

Good Luck with your search, I hope you find the right one. And whichever you choose dont forget to wave!

Test drive one of each.. It's the only way to know for sure...

I have a 6 speed and love it 90% of the time. The 10% I don't love it is when I'm stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and wish I had the auto..

They're both awesome...

Drive one of each. Make sure that the auto you drive or consider buying has the G92 option. It has a lower gear ratio and better acceleration.

vertc51116 makes some very valid points. Both cars are great. If you drive a lot on the freeway in stop and go traffic, an auto may be better. If you like to drive hard, a mn6 is more fun.

Do what feels best to you.

Get the MN6. If you get tired of shifting, just go from 1st to 4th.... Your Corvette will have enough torque to pull you through!

I don't know whether a manual is "better" than an auto, but to me, there's just so much more of a fun factor with the 6-speed. Believe me, I spend a lot of time in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and it isn't much fun with a manual. But then, the clutches in these cars are pretty effortless compared to those in other vehicles I've driven. I'll never switch to an automatic.....the open road times make up for the stop & go times.

Default I asked the same question!

Before I purchased mine, I had to choose between auto or manual.

I went with the manual and love it , do not regret it one bit, even when I am stuck in traffic!

Thanks for the input guys, it's helped. I feel a little better now knowing that neither is exactly a "bad" choice. There's also some peer pressure from my driving buddies, but I won't let that dictate what I buy.

Although manual kind of scares me as I've never actually driven in a manual car before. I just sat in a few idle manual cars and fiddled around, that's it.

Well I was always looking for a manual C5,, I thought it would be more fun to drive. But a manual in top shape was hard to find in my area. Then I found this automatic mint shape,, and I bought it.. no regrets.. There's lots of power, and is still a blast to drive. The odd manual one the I would see was well beaten, ...As others have said in this forum ,try both and see what u like. It depends on what kind of driving u plan to do.......... well good luck with it, and post a few pics when you finally get it..

Believe me, there will be pics.

I'm beginning to lean towards the automatic now though... it's easier to find, and it suits my casual driving style. Not that I won't have a little fun (within legal means), but I don't intend to take it to a race track or do drag races or peel outs.

Based on my experience, the shifting is fun for 3 Months, Like a "Pool Table" and then it gets old. Cell phone,traffic,etc.. But that is why they make both. You can shift your Auto if it makes you feel better. I will admit I have done it before.
Both are great machines and you will enjoy either one!

Best of Luck with your selection.

If you've never driven a manual car before, I'd suggest the auto.

I've always driven a manual, and couldn't contemplate not having a MN6. It's just fun to drive. It's just personal preference, and you can't go wrong with a vette, auto or manual.

The auto's are just fine. Drive one and you'll know what I'm talking about.

My Z06 only came with the 6 speed manual transmission but if I was to opt for the coupe or the convertible I'd want it in those as well. I like a manual transmission and since the Corvette is a true sports car it goes well with it...

Ask 5 people and you'll get 5 different opinions. I have an 87 with the 4+3 a 79 Auto and a 99 Auto. If I were buying a new 2007 I get the paddle shift auto. I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the car. If it is a daily driver I'd say auto. If you going to road race it or drag it I say get a stick. Is your wife or girlfriend going to drive it? What are her thoughts. As guys we want our girls to get into our love of cars but many times we don't consider their feelings and we exclude them by default. Then we wonder why they aren't intrested.

I agree with what has been said. A Corvette is an amazing automoble regardless of the transmission type. Get what you want based upon your preference. Good luck!
