If wikipedia is correct and the SAE says any two-door model with rear accommodation greater than or equal to 33 cubic feet, then technically it is a two-door sedan. The GTO has 41.35 cubic feet of space. But the marketing people call it a coupe.
I'm sorry, but that is the single most rediculous statement ever made on the internet. It looks nothing like the civic or the cobalt. Hold on a minute while I call up Al Gore and tell him to kick you off the internet, permanently.
On second thought you're right, the Civic and Cobalt are much better looking.
What was the subject of this thread again?? Seems it fell off track. It will be a close race but with a good driver the C5 should win. That's with two stock cars.
Im with Johnny, saw one thought it was a Grand prix or am.But for the ricers out there go for it.Take him past 100mph and then you go for it!!!!!
I've driven both LS1 and LS2 GTO's. They'll give our C5 a good run, even over 100 MPH. The C5 should be victorious, but not without a fight from the GTO.
The C5 will edge out the GTO with the same driver. Yeah, the LS2 Goats have 400/400, but.......they're also at a 600+ lb disadvantage when compared to a C5 Coupe. They're pigs. You're talking about running a 400HP 3800 lb car against a much more aerodynamic 350hp 3200lb car. That, and the suspension geometry of the GTO is just wacky, and it's essentially impossible to launch a Goat without getting a good amount of wheel hop.
Take my buddy for instance. He's a decent driver, but could only muster a best of 13.5@104 on a 2.1x short time. And that was a one time thing. Plenty of 13.6 and up runs though.
Anybody have actual times with an LS2 GTO and a C5 6 speeds with comparible drivers? Crazy how the gas tank is right against the rear seat back.As far as the beauty thing goes, I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I just happen to think the GTO (in the looks department)is not worth a second look, though I think the interior is alright.
The GTO is not ugly, nor is it pretty. It's just "there" All it is, is a 2 door car with a corvette motor and drive train. They are fast cars, but way to pricy for a car just to go fast in. The c5 is fast, sleek, a real sports car and a hell of a lot funner to drive. As I said, the GTO is for someone who needs a back seat, thinks it will save him on insurance, and wants to go fast. For the price of a new GTO, you could have a low milage C5 that is only a few years old. They serve there purpose, but if you want one you better get it soon, because GM is going to quite making them due to lack of sales and interest.
I have a friend who has a new GTO with the LS2 and claims he can kick butt on my car. He won't go to the track and I absolutely refuse to try anything on the street with him. But it has me wondering. Who would win? My C5 is an MN6, Callaway honker, Ti exhaust...The GTO is a 6 speed. Makes me nervous that a car that ugly actually could beat me.
You mean the both of you can't find a place to settle this somewhere out in Golden Gate, thats a mighty big place (especially South).

We just haven't got around to hit. He's got a custom fabbed x-pipe and mufflers and a Voilant Intake right now, so that could make things interesting. He's also got a set of 1 7/8" Kooks that we'll be installing in his driveway next week. I don't know if I want to grudge race him at Atco or not after that. My lil' almost stock 99 (Hurst shifter, only mod) against a full exhaust and intake LS2 GTO?? I think not. *Edit* .........of course, I'm pretty sure that I would drive him into the ground, I've got about 100x the track experience he does.
It still amazes me how people here bash other people's choices of cars. I personally just bought an 06 GTO Brazen Orange. Its my everyday car and a lot of fun to drive. Maybe not the best look in the world but the fit and finish is very nice and the LS2 isnt shabby. Austrialians(sp) really have there stuff together building these cars. Production is also really low which I liked, not like 50k mustangs running around.
I think a stock C5 and 06 GT0 would be close but the C5s 600 less pounds would over take the GTO by a little assuming both drivers were the same.
They make some body kits for the GTOs as well which are pretty cool:
