I am new to the forum, so please excuse me if I make a mistake. I have a 2004 Z06 and I get it serviced frequently. I was in the dealer the other day getting my front corner lights replaced (under warranty) and thought, I should go ahead and have the fuel filter replaced since its up in the air and I am at 22k miles. The dealer told me that it would cost 500 bucks because its in the tank. Is this right??? I have access to gm parts catalogs and I dont see anything that notes this. I do know that there were 2 different style tanks that could go in them, so maybe this has something to do with it.
Any help in the matter would be appreciate.
Yes, partway through model year 2003 (starting with 2003 VIN 35114929 produced on 11/25/02, so I've read), GM totally redesigned the C5 fuel system. For 2003 Corvettes only, this system was designated by RPO code FFS, which can be found on the car's Service Parts Identification (RPO) Label. However, the name "FFS" has been unofficially applied to all vehicles with the new system.
For those C5s with the redesigned FFS fuel system, the fuel filter is contained in the fuel sender assembly inside the left fuel tank and the tanks do have to be dropped to replace the sender assemblies. According to the GM Service Manual, there is no service interval for fuel filter replacement for the FFS fuel system.
