Default alarm sets itself?

I have a question about my factory alarm. Car in question is an '01 Z06. When I come home, I just shut the car off, get out, and close the door. I do *not* lock the doors in any way. If I come back out later on and open the door, the alarm goes off. Does the alarm set itself after a set period of time? Anyone know anything about this?

thanks
Joe

My car does something similar. I can hear it locking and unlocking as I walk around the garage. Kind of annoying. I have gone through the usual DIC settings and fob settings, but it still does the same thing. I have no clue.

Sounds like the passive entry system that on the 97-99 models. Where it will lock/unlock for you. I thought you could turn it off though.

My 2002 doesn't do that. Can you turn it off in the DIC?

You turn it on or off (the passive mode) by using the slider switch on the bottom of the FOBs, not through the DIC

the switch is on the fob. sometimes it gets stuck though and you have to take it apart and permenantly switch it off. the passive entry was stopped in 99 though. something definately is not right.

That's because yours is a 99, and you have the PASSIVE switch activated on your FOBS.

I think GM discontinued this because of ongoing problems.

It's stated by the Corvette Black Book as being discontinued because some owners could not figure it out.

Is it that hard to figure out?

Question - are you leaving your keys in the ignition when you vacate the car?
I have a 99, and I turned off all the auto/passive settings thru the FOB Options menu and from my Remote Transmitter.
Read the owners manual for the FOB and Remote Transmitter settings - it's a little confusing but just keep messing with it until you get it all figured out....

Nope - the car in question is an '01 Z06 - doesn't have the "passive" feature.

I'd be suspecting a weak battery is somehow screwing up the security system. It can cause some bizarre symptoms: on my 2002, when the battery was dying, the alarm would go off when I tried to lock the car with the fob.

OK, I know this sounds strange but are your floor mats wet - in this hot weather a lot of people have been having strange electrical problems lately - some of them are due to plugged AC drains, which can allow moisture to get into the electronics, causing all sorts of weird problems. Take the panel out in the pass side foot well and check for any dampness in there, just to be safe. Other than that, I too am clueless...
